Starcraft 2 HOTS v1 Megathread - Kerrigan is coming (USE SPOILERS TILL 28.3.2013)

I've already played through half the campaign, and I have to say, that it's pretty awesome, but since I use The Core Hotkey Layout, I have to reach all the way across the keyboard to reach the Zergling and Roach keys. It's really inefficient since I lose position of my hand and then I start to screw up which control group key I'm pressing.
wow this ladder is absolutely fucked atm
i did my placements, got my shit rocked 3 out of 5 times by masters players/cheese and now i'm in silver
and now there are masters players in silver, nothing is sacred anymore
ending spoilers
[sp]lol that leak from like a year or two ago was the actual ending[/sp]
I'm enjoying the Behind the scenes blu-ray. As much as I've toyed with the campaign editor I've never known that there was a built in cinematic editor too. Mind blown!
I don't get why everyone hates the story or dialog, after the three missions it certainly gets better.
Whatever you say, I'm still enjoying the singleplayer as I did in WoL.
And I can install Brood War for mp.
It's strange
Unless I did my counting wrong, this has more missions than WoL did
Yet I feel like I didn't spend that much time playing at all

The only reason it is like that is because they completely reset the MMR for every single player. Things will go back into place in a week or so :)

Yeah, I'm only doing campaign and unranked at the moment. I'm going to wait a few more days for the ladder to settle in before I begin ranking.
i think it's kinda bullshit that you can't actually install Heart of the Swarm from the disk
Is this worth buying for $80? I only really enjoy offline skirmish with AI / campaign in RTS games.
I also enjoy long walks on the beach
Cliché's everywhere
The horrendous dialogue
The pacing of it
The fact that so far it seems like WoL had no impact at all because you practically undid everything from WoL (so far, still havent finished it)
how far have you made it exactly?
you're on the same boat as I am, and yes

now i've [sp]rescued Raynor and pretty much when it came back to the terran characters it actually started shaping up. im actually curious about the storylines progression now. and thank fucking god Raynor didnt go "oh i love you too" and start making out with Kerrigan at the prison. part of me wishes he shot her too. but im not done yet, will finish later tonight or tomorrow.[/sp]

Um...yes you can? I did it.

imo the story isn't nearly as bad as WoL. it really picks up after the first few missions and [sp]Stukov is awesome[/sp]
pretty bad ending though
[sp]also Raynor mentioning Fenix in that cinematic where Kerrigan breaks him out was nice[/sp]
Honestly I enjoyed the story in HotS more than WoL. It's not about a love sick puppy dog this time around and everything that does happen makes sense. However I am disappointed about...[sp]Stukov. We all know he's infested and how, but we don't know why or anything about his experiments. All we know is that Samir Duran killed him and disappeared. We all know that Emil Narud is possible Samir, or at least a copy of him. And we know that Emil is responsible for Stukov's infestation. But what bothers me is that Stukov doesn't go into detail about his infestation. I have a feeling we'll get those details later in Legacy of the Void, but as it is now I believe that Stukov is some kind of undercover agent who has no will of his own. Why would Samir revive and infest him, but let him keep his mind? He would be a threat to the entire operation.[/sp]

And I found that HotS felt longer than WoL, which is great in my opinion and I am now looking forward to LotV.
Personally the campaign annoyed the fucking shit out of me.
[sp]The lack of any choice pissed me off, you get one choice at the beginning on whether to gas the dominion or let the zerg loose on them, it makes you think that playing as Kerrigan you're going to struggle against trying to retain humanity while controlling the swarm but that goes out the window later on when you just go full fucking infested. They just completely ignored an awesome plot hook.[/sp]

I will disagree with you but only because [sp]She still struggles with her humanity even after she becomes Primal as she is in full control of her will. Watch her reactions, her tone of voice. The struggle is there. She doesn't like doing what she does, but she knows it is necessary. Why do you think Zeratul sent her there? He of all people knows what must be done.[/sp]

[sp]There was a secret mission on the Nintendo 64 version of SC1 called Resurrection IV where it was revealed that the Zerg were experimenting with using infested terran as leaders of broods and Stukov was the first specimen. You had to play as Raynor and some Protoss sent to his secret base to de-infest him. Blizzard later said the mission was canon but implied that the serum didn't permanently de-infest him. So I'm guessing he was re-infested and just wandered the galaxy having a bone to pick with the guy that killed him (Duran/Narud).[/sp]

That's interesting. I have the N64 version of Starcraft but I never played much into it. Mostly only have it for collection purposes. I was unaware of any exclusive missions.

[sp]Except you don't really have any choice of the matter. It would have been a lot more fun IMO if you had the final choice, tell Valerian to fuck off and land in the city first and tell the evacuation to fuck off.[/sp]

Um...no. There is a reason why Blizzard took out choices from HotS. In WoL they chose which ones were Canon and which ones weren't. There is no point in giving players the illusion of choice when you're going to decide for yourself what is going to happen.

Which is why WOL felt so much superior to HOTS's campaign. I'd rather have the illusion of choice then no choice.
i like the hots campaign because i cant stand playing terran.
its like playing command and conquer only blizzard did everything wrong

It's wasted man-power. Why waste time on a few choice missions when you can focus on what matters and do it right. Honestly, a lot of you sound like you don't even understand the story at all. And you definitely don't understand people if you feel that its getting too emotional. It may be a war zone, but the characters feel more real to me than most other characters from any other game.

for me its the other way around because i find zerg to be so fucking boring. dullass music, they dont speak
terran have the best music and have memorable lines, every single unit does
ok just finished it a bit cheesy ending with the [sp]farewell words from kerrigan and shit but so long as raynor still hates her for becoming the queen of blades again i dont care[/sp]
i bursted out laughing when [sp]kerrigan just flew away in the end[/sp]
