Gabe himself denied the movie requests, saying "All the ideas suck."
Way to stick it to 'em, Newell.
Maybe if it was made by vALVE it wouldn't. VALVE really knows how to treat it's customers.
It's been more than 2 years since the first meet the team came out, and there is still only 7 of them. Think about how long a full movie would take.
Personally I want there to be a movie that takes place between HL1 and HL2, show how Earth slowly crumbles under Combine rule.
Just gonna' copy and paste what I had said before to a friend...
I had been wondering to myself how it would have been like when the Combine first attacked Earth when the planet was still flourishing with human activity. Seeing cities and the government fall beneath the Combine's invasion. I would have wanted to see the effects it would have had on normal people around the world, how it would change their lives forever. Like it can start off as being another normal day in life and rumors start spreading of an accident at Black Mesa in New Mexico, then strange creatures start appearing in the outskirts, incidents start happening when some people get too close to it. Then newspapers and TV news will start commenting about it, how strange appearances and bizarre accidents have started happening down there a couple of miles near the research facility, and how communications have cut off from the facility for a number of days. Soon military personnel are seen flying over to that location, sending people into a frenzy, confused and afraid of what's going on. Soon rumors start spreading like wild fire until a nuclear explosion is seen going off over there, where it hits the news. Soon enough, people claiming they were survivors from the facility reveal about the resonance cascade and the events that transpired and it hits the news like crazy. Now that everyone is aware of what has happened, people all over the world start going into a mass hysteria about the emergence of these aliens. Days later, super portals start appearing all over the world, in which it is abused by the Combine to teleport to Earth and start their invasion. That's when pretty much all hell breaks loose and cities crumble, people die, the government falls apart, and the Combine plant their dominion on the planet. Then we'll see the aftermath with people taking shelter, people constantly running away, people getting caught and killed, thrown in fires, or turned into the first Combine humanoid soldiers. And this can all be shown through the eyes of multiple main characters around the world, showing the viewers how the world is changing everywhere, from beginning to end.
I dunno, there is so much room and potential for another decent Half Life story between 1 and 2 I'm surprised there isn't one yet.
Personally, I would love to animate this whole thing myself, kinda like a fan movie, if I even knew how. Still need to finish my art studies before I even consider doing such a thing.
It's this thread again.
A Half-Life movie would suck like all the other game-based movies
This depends. Gabe Newell has been very stringent on those who come to him with propositions. He's said himself that Valve won't Authorize a movie unless the script is something spectacular and sticks to the original plot.

I think I read somewhere that the portal storms summoned several Xenian aliens before the Combine. Imagine Cloverfield but with more, better-designed monsters than just Giant Cthulhu Whale and Cthulhu Whale Ticks.
Would be awesome if done right. Like in the boring, unimportant parts where nothing exciting is happening, the movie could shit plots to, say, Blue shift. And when it reached a boring part in that plot, it would go over to Op4 or, back to Gordon. Since the games have the same story different view, it would tie in perfect. One question is: who could they find that is sexy and awesome enough to play Gordon?
Also, i dont think a HL2 story would work, because it only has one view: Gordon. it would get boring just watching gordon, by himself, not saying anything.
No, that would be bad. Keep the main characters out, focus on someone else. Don't interfere with the games directly.

How about Otis the obese Canadian security guard?
I just hope it comes out in 3D
If it was made exactly like the video game, with a Film Crew/Director that actually played through the game, it would be one very gory and line-less film.
Well if we followed Gordon freeman it would be very, lets say dull and short bursts of action. And no talking. From a soldiers point of view would be cool, or as stated earlier, from an escaping scientists.
All 10 year olds in the world find out about it, find out there's a game called half life and half life 2, then they discover valves online games. soon the movie causes steam to have a Children With Microphones uprising, soon this causes 25% of the 10 year old 360 fanboys to download steam just to flame the PC because they can't afford the parts to make their pc's better.
The end

You forgot the parts where people have fun making them scream and cry over the mic.
DooM Movie - Sucked
Max Payne - Sucked
Hitman - Sucked
As for Half Life, what are the chances?
Well here's my opinion, I rather play than watch someone play for me the entire way.
But why not BlueShift in third person, while Barney is really talking and interacting?
May work for Decay and Opposing Force though (but to me it won't).
Opposing Force: The Movie.
Then we get a toy line of Opposing Force legos and then even an Opposing Force The Movie Lego game.
awesome
Shoot it from a Vortigaunt's perspective in it's initial enslavement and the vort uprising after the death of Nihilanth.
I'd watch the fuck out of that.
It should be a feature length version of Freeman's Mind

That sounds... plausible. Good, even. I'd watch it. Well, I'd watch ANY Half-Life movie that came out regardless of quality but I'd like that one.
Lammar was just an ordinary headcrab, until his parents were burtaly murdered by a man with a crowbar. Now he is a loose cannon headcrab who lives on the edge! He must run or face this man before its too late, and time is ticking. See it in mindblowing 2D *explosion*! And if you thought that was the end, you were WRONG !
He is back in a fight for survival agenst an endless army of robotic kidneys! Watch him do amazing stunts like jump into a vent or watch him disappear from the lab, 1 month LATER! You can run, YOU CAN HIDE, but you can't escape LAMMAR!
A) It's called: 'Rate me lots of boxes".
B) He's a she.
A) It's "Llamar".
B) He's a she.
Both of you fail.

Also, if i want a Half Life related movie, it should be in the seven hour war, and the character shouldn't be Freeman. HL1 would bore pretty much.

Yeah, just as I was saying. Fully explaining how the Seven Hour War went down is perfect material for another story.
It should be a feature length version of Freeman's Mind
No, it should be a feature length version of Half Life: Full Life consequences.
Yes.
what about escape from city 17?
Should be directed by Michael Bay, with lots of BOOM!
"Rob Schneider is Gordon Freeman. But he's about to find out that being a scientist, is harder than it looks!"
A movie based on the Seven Hour War?
A movie based on the Seven Hour War? No one has ever thought about that.
You mean noone thought about that in this thread? Cause you're the third guy saying that.

Edit button to the rescue.
"Half Life: A Headcrab's Story"
at the end kleiner finds him and picks him up
"i shall call you... lamar, bwahahahahaha"
