[QUOTE=MrBob1337;40333487]What happened to the Extraplanetary Space Centers thread in Plugin Development? Did it get eaten by the forum "fix"?[/QUOTE] probably
[img]http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b136/Yawmwen/screenshot0_zps345bf4c6.png[/img] jeb and the new tug station. it's small and hopefully elegant enough to perform its job of fueling and resting my various tugs. [img]http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b136/Yawmwen/screenshot2_zps738242c8.png[/img] my first tug, the rcs tug. it's little more than a glorified rcs tank with reaction thrusters and a docking port on the nose. the goal is simply to get craft that are near a station to actually be able to dock with the station if they don't have enough rcs to do it alone. i might actually replace it with a new version with a quantum core on it so i can strut vehicles i want to move. [img]http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b136/Yawmwen/screenshot5_zps28270298.png[/img] rcs tug is now safe and sound on the station. jeb must be getting pretty lonely all alone. maybe i'll send a manned tug up to keep him company and also for dark side operations. i got a question though, if i want to transfer rcs fuel from the station to the tug, do i have to dock on the module with rcs tanks or can i be docked on that big liquid fuel tank? can you transfer monoprop in vanilla or do i have to use lazorsystems or quantum fuel transfer for that? i can't seem to figure it out. [editline]19th April 2013[/editline] also next on the agenda if starting the module program in full. that means my next pics should have a design for a modular kerbin system lander, something able to land on both the mun, minmus, and return to respective orbits to be tugged back. also that means i gotta put up a resting station for the modules. this is gonna be way too complex to be efficient, but challenges aren't necessarily meant to be the "optimal" way to go.
I came up with a station design that involves reshuffling the parts once in orbit: [img]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/885231715276627474/712FCDADF88E871ED43A3DD9A392AFDE50DAB373/[/img] [img]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/885231715276651543/D575B7665021E82A50C691166CBD5932FA541E1A/[/img] I actually only intended to do one re-attach, in order to get rid of the extra parts in the middle, but I discovered that side docking is unwieldy, so I detached this guy: [img]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/885231715276677184/C1BFC3D7388CDCC6DE1EDE5ADC9D2C3D08EE962F/[/img] And put him on one of the other ports to free up the front one. I have to say, that little craft controls so smoothly, it actually made docking a good experience for a change. [/QUOTE] I'm pretty sure you can send fuel/rcs anywhere, as long as it's attached of course.
[QUOTE=yawmwen;40331853]spaceport is horrible what happened to kerbal.net or w/e[/QUOTE] they are both horible because there is no real way to filter between "mods" and mods "mods" being some shitty ship pack someone threw togather, tagged with all the other mods and put up on the forum, yes we get it you have ships, thats great but stop polluting the pages [editline]18th April 2013[/editline] imagepost of my new dunabase [t]http://imageshack.us/a/img442/4005/screenshot70r.png[/t] [t]http://imageshack.us/a/img688/2677/screenshot64r.png[/t] [t]http://imageshack.us/a/img809/4706/screenshot79w.png[/t]
[QUOTE=ryandaniels;40333761] I'm pretty sure you can send fuel/rcs anywhere, as long as it's attached of course.[/QUOTE] how do i do it then? i can't figure it out. [QUOTE=yawmwen;40333922]how do i do it then? i can't figure it out.[/QUOTE] right click on one tank, then right ctrl-right click on another tank. Or it might be shift... For some reason I can't remember even though I do it all the time.
it's alt+right click, thanks! :)
Well I'm glad you were able to work useful information from my terrible advice. This is like the time I couldn't remember my student id even though I type it into a computer everyday. My muscle memory is way better than my actual memory.
also never do fuel transfer with spaceplanes unless you know you have enough fuel to fill every tank they are much pickier about balance
Yeah why not do this crazy junk in KSP. also, went to antares fail launch. at the hotel full of orbital executives someone... set up a personal hotspot that had the SSID "orbital cannot into space" [video=youtube;XBNn65zJKDE]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBNn65zJKDE[/video]
Is it possible to have a set of fuel tanks at opposite ends of a plane that don't get used by engines, which you can pump around to set ballast?
Fuel doesn't seem to get used if it's separated from an engine by a decoupler, if that helps.
Managing it midflight is a nonissue, I'm just considering it for my plane with dockable engines so I can deal with the COM being thrown around.
I wish there was a way of routing fuel to an engine directly; Sometimes I want to decouple the engine from the tank after I'm done with it, but once you put a decoupler, the engine won't run. The only workaround is to add a small fuel tank above the engine, and then put a fuel line form the main tank to the small one. But that usually causes instability. Which also brings up the fact that you can't run fuel line vertically; you have to first route it to a radially mounted fuel tank and then back in.

It's perfectly feasible to route a fuel line directly from a tank to an engine. It's all about placement.
Finally moved my refueling station from its original (and very crowded) orbit at 90km to its new home at 1000km. Think it might need some more docks though. Also I was trying to manage docking with no RCS and a nice long double orange tank/mainsail second stage(to keep fuel) from my tug, accidentally staged while thrusting, and was pinned to this unstoppable rocket. Managed to roll out of the way, and finished the dock with my nuclear engine.
[QUOTE=Chamango;40334639]Is it possible to have a set of fuel tanks at opposite ends of a plane that don't get used by engines, which you can pump around to set ballast?[/QUOTE] Right click on the engine in-flight and click the green arrow to stop fuel flow. Also, you might consider using SAS tanks.
they should make it so you can refuel multiple fuel tanks at once. it would make refueling space planes a lot more simple.
[t]http://imageshack.us/a/img441/6334/screenshot89l.png[/t] soyuz duna, comming in with battery failure, low on gas, solar pannels broken, and docking assistance non-responsive can't believe i saved this one, according to mechjeb there is 10s of deltaV left in the tank, maybe it'll be a nice lander for ike, gotta check what the gravity is there [t]http://imageshack.us/a/img694/1743/screenshot90q.png[/t] then i got very close and realised i was comming into the adapted port that i put on for use with small probes and whatnot, i think this ship is becomming more of a station, but with this last rondevous i realised that my ship is going in an opposite orbit to all stuff that is comming into the system [editline]19th April 2013[/editline] that crater in the background is where my land base is though, its very easy to spot from space [editline]19th April 2013[/editline] [t]http://imageshack.us/a/img801/1880/screenshot86.png[/t] something else i did this time was launch 2 vehicles in the same launch window, i gotta remember to do this more often, i thought with the same launch window they would arrive at the same time and i wouldnt be able to do both, but turns out, it was off by about a month on delivery [editline]19th April 2013[/editline] [QUOTE=yawmwen;40334932]they should make it so you can refuel multiple fuel tanks at once. it would make refueling space planes a lot more simple.[/QUOTE] i always kinda wished that tanks connected by fuel lines would transfer fuel out of a tank that is being refilled [editline]19th April 2013[/editline] man duna isnt all that difficult to get to, guess nerva engines are the key to the solar system
Did the forums go down again?
[QUOTE=nomad1;40337769]Did the forums go down again?[/QUOTE] It's not just you.
So I made a proper MLRS. Meet the KICSDF Kwa'Cha. [t]http://i.imgur.com/HjKAWqT.jpg[/t] 48 light missiles fired in either 12-rocket bursts or in one massive salvo. They can be guided or dumb-fired. [t]http://i.imgur.com/wEodU5Q.jpg[/t] Here's a 12-rocket guided salvo being fired. [t]http://i.imgur.com/4tKw04H.jpg[/t] And here's the full 48-salvo being dumb-fired. [t]http://i.imgur.com/sW2s0ou.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/yI891Hp.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/B3dBGDX.jpg[/t] One quarter of the dumb-fired salvo on its way back down. I'm not entirely sure, but I think I inadvertently angled all the missile racks so that they all hit the same general area when dumb-fired.
Where the hell do you guys find all those weapons and explosives and shit?
when the forums are not deleting themselves, theres alot of laser stuff and theres a weapons pack thats from the same author i think [editline]19th April 2013[/editline] or you can just put a bunch of decoupler rockets on the radial decoupler plates [editline]19th April 2013[/editline] or alternatively the soyuz rocket [I]was[/I] originally an ICBM so.... you could just dumbfire it at a target
Tried out the demo. It's fun but there's really not enough parts in the demo, so it's fun for about five minutes. I'm definitely going to buy this game at some point though.

some mod for lazor iirc
[QUOTE=MrBacon;40340187]Where the hell do you guys find all those weapons and explosives and shit?[/QUOTE] Lazor mod. Has guided missiles and a laser that causes parts to overheat and explode.

Things got pretty hairy but I made it at least. My rocket wasn't exactly fit for the job, when I was in Eve's SOI I had run out of fuel so I had to improvise and use the last of my RCS to close the orbit (which left me with 0.43% left, which meant that I was just over ONE SECOND off not making it). [img]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/576735140801361212/D14F6DBC7B9A87E8BC0C29FA801FEA7DA69C3F1E/1024x768.resizedimage[/img] So now I'm here, I think I'll stay around [sub]around,[/sub] [sub][sub]around,[/sub][/sub] [sub][sub][sub]around,[/sub][/sub][/sub] [sub][sub][sub][sub]around.[/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub]
Is there a way to change the ship you're controlling mid-flight? It'd be hella useful to keep my docking ports aligned on the final approach; going to the space centre and back is far too slow.
