I'm tempted to pick this up. Would you recommend buying this from the website or from steam? Is there any difference?

Steam version, just because. There MIGHT be mod support via the Steam Workshop but I dunno. Just get it on steam for convenience.

I'd recommend the website unless they do a Steam sale. Odds are that they'll never do workshop integration, just more spaceport, so Steam only has the advantage of a patcher that always works (although they hopefully will make one for non-Steam users soon), which isn't that big a deal, since the next update might still be a while and the next one after that will be an even longer wait.
Website if you want to fully support the devs since valve takes a % from their sales.
when did the forums go back up? i kept googling "ksp forums" and whenever i clicked on it i got the maintenance page but for shits and giggles i clicked one of their specific boards and it showed up. i'm an idiot i guess i was clicking a maintenance page google still had up even though it wasn't the actual forums =\
Dear Squad
I and many other people understand what happened and don't blame you for this. But in any case it happened and stuff with to ****. So what I was hoping is that you might post a few images on the forums of the next update so to inject some enthusiasm in the community.
For anyone else out there who wants to let Squad know that we don't blame them for the outage and the forum reset post on this thread.
uhhh i kinda do actually
proper backups prevent badthings
Do not taunt Magic Boulder.

Yeah, I don't blame them for the outage, but they should've kept more backups. It's not like storage space is expensive now. What's a few dollars for data security?
Steam version has the Steam DLC DRM (so, no multiple copies of the game, no playing off USB sticks / dvds...), the website version does not.
Anyone got a tutorial on how to make a remotetech satnet? they need to be so fucking close orbits that I just can't get them precice enough to not fall out.

Woops, fuck.
I'm pretty sure KSP gladly hands over steams cut on sales when you consider the massive amounts of exposure their getting from being on steam. I mean, there's ads for it all the time on the steam store's main page.

I don't know why anyone would want to fiddle around with another username/password/website combo; having something on steam means for now into perpetuity if I want to play any game I've ever bought, and I want it to be the latest version, I can just click "library", and then doubleclick the title and in a short time it's installed and ready to go.
Plus, I always found downloading KSP from the main site quite tedious and annoying.
Needless to say, I switched to steam without a second thought.

Time to go to jool and plant all 4 rovers, and try to land a kerbal and get him back up!
I avoided quantum struts for so long because the title made me think it was just some cheat strut mod.
God DAMN am I glad I found out what they really do.

p. much necessary for building space stations or modular systems.

It's DRM, not DLC.

try the [ key, it switches between ships, BE FORWARNED THOUGH, ASAS and mechjeb WILL sometimes go suicidal and do things that will kill your ship , such as fire the engines.... or spaz the rcs and cause the ship to break appart

wait i thought the steam version would just download it to a folder like the website version does

pretty simple, just gotta maintain lines of sight, just like in real life, so 3 sats in the right orbit can give you a full link to the mission control

The Steam version requires Steam running to play.

Only for some people, apparently. I haven't switched so I'm only basing this on the thread.
Actually, I'd wager people ask Steam to add a shortcut to KSP on their desktop, which becomes a shortcut to Steam's Applaunch process, and not to the .exe itself.
jeb is stranded on the mun in my game because i didnt ACTUALLY think i wouldve made it and didnt pack enough fuel to get back to kerbin
or a parachute, for that matter

1st thing people do when they start this game is try to go to the mun
2nd thing people do after making it to the mun, send a rescue boat to the mun

That's not the problem I have, the problem I have is keeping at the same distance from eachother, how the hell do you deal with 0.1m/s changes.

You fix them every so often.

Weight Granularity. (Yes I just invented that term). Basically I can eject dead weight earlier than with large orange tanks. This reduces the amount of useless weight I carry around.
Also, here's the savegame: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/28079852/Exo-Train4.rar
You'll need http://kerbalspaceport.com/novapunch-remix-pack/

I imagine the fuel weight to dry mass ratio is lot higher with orange tanks however. I doubt carrying more dry mass at all times is better than waiting longer between jettisoning a single unit of dry mass.
[editline]20th April 2013[/editline]
Nevermind, everything seems to have the same ratio, 8:1.
Which is ridiculous, I guess we could make a rocket fuel tank out of a million pocket lighters duct taped together then?

I blame the game, not my design.
Although the problem with smaller tanks is that you have more weight for all the decouplers and fuel lines. I found the tanks I used to be a good compromise between usability and weight.
