that's exactly what minecraft was doing, then they stopped after a while and just kinda mucked about doing not much.

not really, minecraft's development was never planned or consistent and since the very beginning consisted entirely of random things notch coded on a whim
not to mention Kerbal Space Program has already surpassed the point Minecraft was/is at (someone likely had a neat idea, built a rig to test the idea out in practice and saw that it had promise, so kept developing it until either it became the main project of SQUAD and/or became the reason SQUAD was formed and from there was professionally developed)

don't get me wrong, I've had plenty of fun with Minecraft and I don't doubt its insane success, but in my opinion it hasn't gone much further from when it was just a pet project of markus
.. which, when compared to KSP goes to show how different they are
It's great to keep you from slamming into your station, I used it to go .1m/s to dock so it's very important.
I don't normally have much trouble with slamming into stations unless I accidentally throttle up the engine during approach, but that's easily fixed by shutting the engine down when I'm close enough to start using RCS.
forums down again

Squad was formed before KSP.

I'm so happy :D
After two weeks I've made it to the Mun.
.. and forgot to take a screenshot. Fuck..
I am seconds away from bleeding out of every orifice in my face.
Despite me being done with KSP, i went back in, trying to build a fucking rocket my stupid lander probe ASSHOLE can ride on just to any point outside the atmosphere. Which is now turning out to be fucking impossible.
This is my new design:

Using asparagus method, trying with and without any SAS/ASAS, with or without any wings, only ONE mechjeb. And no matter what, my old arch nemesis, Retarded Physics, makes sure nothing will work.
It's the same as before, it starts to spin, spin alot faster and then it slips underneath itself and fails. Just like all the other god damn attempts i've had at this shit. And this is the first time i have had such damn persistant problem in KSP.
What i did this time was to move the primary rocketry further up along the nuclear engine. But its the same damn deal.
Guys, what in the holy hell is going on?!

you're using way too much propulsion imo
have you tried a single nuke engine and three mainsails for launch?
I wanted to attach my first stage engines separately than my second stage ones, but I only had access to an incline...

Have you tried straightening out the whole thing a little by roating the angled decouplers with SHIFT+WASDQE?

I just need to be sure about what a single "mainsail" is.
I just need to be sure about what a single "mainsail" is.
The engine you've got under the orange tanks.
the engine with mainsail in its name
[editline]11th April 2013[/editline]
a 2 stage rocket can easily get to orbit (1 mainsail & 3 big silver tanks + 1 mainsail & 1 big silver tank)

Never knew you could do that, thanks for the tip.
Although with the way I did it, I guaranteed that the rockets end up pointed directly upwards.
The Hitchhiker's Cabin can't take being landed on at all, can it? :/

I discovered that the reason my rocket (the one I posted above) was spinning out of control was because the main engines were attached in such a way that their weight was pulling them into a very slight radial tilt.
And once they start rotating, they are pulled out by the centripetal force, which puts them at an even more radial angle.
In retrospect, I could have just reorganized the engines, but the solution that got me into the air was this:

Except I ended up downgrading them (the side mounted mini-engines) to the even smaller ones because they turned out to be overkill.
Also, nose cones increase drag, you're gonna want to get rid of those.

It's the weakest capsule in the game, as intended. It's for apollo style missions, y'know a 2 man lander.
If I recall correctly, it has an impact tolerance of about 8m/s, which is around 16 or 17 mph, so it's still pretty tough. However, the normal 3 man capsule has a tolerance of about 42m/s, which is astounding.

Great. I need one so I can run a rescue mission, but none of the chutes get it below, like, 8.8m/s.

why did you stick rockomax adaptors on the SRBs

Impact tolerance is less than 6.2m/s.

Over complicated, too heavy too much potential thrust.
Your probe
decoupler
RCS tank an d RCS blocks
Small fuel tank or normal fuel tank (FLT tanks)(for yourorbital stage)
small engine
decoupler
3 of those double normal sized tanks in a row (the double FLT ones)
Engine with thrust vectoring.
Then you want an asparagus using two of the double length fuel tanks, and the non vectoring engines, arrange them into pairs, (so 2 feed the other 2 and then hwen they run out can be dropped and then the second 2 feeding the main tank)
Pretty much guaranteed to be able to get you into a good orbit.
Sigh ... I honestly can't wrap my head around any more for today... Would anyone else like to try and hurl this module outside the atmosphere?

Anyone got a clock?

why does it have so many extra fuel tanks for the nuke engine
where were you planning on taking this, another solar system?
Decided to give this game a go after not playing for ages, thought I'd task myself with landing on Mun first. It ended up throwing me into the orbit of the sun, with the last bit of fuel I had I managed to get back into Kerbin's orbit and then into Minmus' orbit. I managed to land on Minmus completely accidentally, boy was it fun!
