C&C Tiberian Sun is free now, with a few other old C&C games as well...
I actually didn't like Company of Heroes, but I'm in the minority on that one
I just beat Supreme Commander 2, & liked it a lot, though I haven't played the first one. If you want a deeper, more micro-managed game, the first one would be preferable
I think Command & Conquer 4 is going to be shit. No base-building, no resource management.. it just sounds too dumbed down. We'll see.
Company of Heroes, it has revived RTS for me. It's great.
Oh, and Age of Empires 1 and 2 are fun too.

The game was fantastic untill they started patch the shit out of it and the balance that existed in the game went to hell.

Ground Control is free on fileplanet and it is a great game.

I would say World in Conflict fits pretty well with that.
I guess this is an ok place to ask, I suck dick at RTS, what can I play to get better at it?
Men of War, belive me! If you play with a friend who is fairly experied and knows how to play the game he can teach you, and it's great for practicing tactics!

I'd say Empire Earth or Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge.
Games not to start with? Starcraft/Warcraft.
