just go to a desert biome, make a 6x6 grass area lit-up, alt-tab, wait for wolves to spawn
They're easy to gather if you create a spawner, just make a well lit grassy area and wait for night to come.
Because passive mobs have no other place to spawn they will all spawn in your grassy area, this is also a great way to gather wool, pork, ...
Currently have just over about 90 wolves i think.
