There's the thing, if it's just gonna be that similar to an already existing weapon, but with less features, what's the point of even adding it? That's why I chose the Tau Cannon, it's already in the HL2 story, and it's quite different from the existing weapons. Plus ammo source is not a problem, we can come up with some other way to power the thing. You'd think in 20 years someone would've upgraded it to use some more obtainable resource, wouldn't you?

True. Remember, the Tau Cannon from HL1 was a prototype, and HL2 picks up 20 years later. If Resistance members like Kleiner were able to get the HEV suit working with Combine chargers and whatnot in all that time, what would have stopped them from doing something similar with the Tau Cannon?

I like the realistic terrain idea, but I don't want it changed too much. Just keep in mind that the area we spend a lot of our time driving on was covered in 10 meters of water 20 years ago. That beach looks like.. well a beach, while in the coast, the beach we follow was mostly underwater before.

It should not be acquired at Lighthouse Point.
You should find it in Kleiner's lab when you return there at the end of Entanglement. It could perhaps be seen inside a half-closed or half-transparent crate/container in Red Letter Day, and when you return, that crate would be open and the weapon could be picked up.
As for its ammunition source, why not use the hivehand/shockroach recharging-mechanic?
Basically, give it a supply of 12 ammunition. Every primary fire shot would expend 2 shots, as in HL1. The weapon would recharge at the rate of, say, 1 ammo per second. Whenever the player is charging up the weapon with the secondary fire (the max charge-up being 12), the recharging would not occur.
In order to not make the weapon too powerful, perhaps holding down the weapon reload key should be required for the re-charging process (playtesting will tell).

What about using the suit's power to recharge it? Either have a powerful weapon or charged armour. Of course if you have no suit power it'd be useless.

THANK YOU! Finally a nice high poly revolver worldmodel. I was quite surprised when Valve themselves decided not to make a new worldmodel, just a new material for it. It's about damn time this happened.
I wonder...sorry for not knowing shit about it, but if cubemapping is a shader, could it be modified? you could make the cubemap move by player movement and make it look sightly better, and make a fading transition between each cubemap, instead of instantly switching to the nearest. is this possible and have I expressed myself in an understandable way?

AFAIK, cubemaps change with the maps or groups of maps in the same environment. IDK if reflection is considered a shader in source, because cubemaps are for when a material is reflective, such as the magnum. That sort of stuff isn't entirely my area of expertise, so excuse me if my answer is shit.
