Half-Life 2: Substance
Ahh yeah, that was it, I thought it was pretty amazing too. I forget how one obtains the Boss setup though.
Half-Life 2: Substance was fucking amazing I loved it
Power unit system overload
What do I win? EDIT: And about the flashlight being angled at the ceiling, it can obviously be redirected downwards with some added depth into the suit, I was just too lazy to fix it
That's the best idea imo.
Half-Life 2: Substance was fucking amazing I loved it
I remember that mod. I don't think I ever properly played through it. Computer ran HL2 pretty bad, and the mod somehow made it worse. http://www.moddb.com/mods/substance Mod hasn't be updated since 2006, if you change the SteamAppID from 220 to 215, it will launch, map selection won't work but the VR missions do. The mod cannot load the maps from the GCF files since the 2007 update.
Wait why does it even matter where his flashlight is? Are you putting it into the mod?
I remember a few mods (back in like 2007) that used them, I think that one HL2 mod that mixed Metal Gear Solid with hl2 used the sounds(Boss mode, Solid Snake mode, Liquid Snake mode~changed your weapon setup and other shiz). (as-well as a lot of recreated beta content like the wire-mine thing) Edit: Wow that's confusing to read, anyway that mod I 'think' used the hl2 vox sounds.
I loved that mod so much. I played through the campaign so many times, with each singleplayer mode.
Wait why does it even matter where his flashlight is? Are you putting it into the mod?
there'll be full-body awareness in the mod, so you'll be controlling an actual model with a flashlight attached instead of just having the illusion of doing so. so if the flashlight isn't in a good enough position it won't control very well and will make the dark sections inordinately difficult.
Still not sure about full-body awareness, how will it look while climbing a ladder or driving a vehicle?
Still not sure about full-body awareness, how will it look while climbing a ladder or driving a vehicle?
Left 4 dead style I imagine.
Still not sure about full-body awareness, how will it look while climbing a ladder or driving a vehicle?
Dark Messiah style for ladders and Far Cry 2 style for entering/exiting vehicles I assume.
Here's an idea: What do you guys think about re-uniting the quartet of scientists? In HL2, they had 3 of the 4 scientists of HL1, as characters (Eli, Kleiner, and Magnusson). So what do you think of adding 'einstein' into HL2 as a secret area character at Black Mesa: East? [t]http://i.imgur.com/HkDa3Qi.png[/t] Now I know he looks like he's in his 50s or older in HL1, but consider this: HL1's 'Kleiner' looked quite old too, yet in HL2 they made him younger in the events of HL1. Also, in Opposing Force, they had a supposed name for the character other than 'Einstein'. Reardon. The only thing is, he apparently died... BUT! What if Reardon actually wasn't dead? What if he was somehow saved? Or if he did die, consider there were a ton of these guys in HL1, one of them probably survived, right? He would be a fully voiced (probably by me, I can replicate his voice pretty well) character that you could interact with in one of the secret areas added to BM:East. Depending on how much time and people we have, he may or may not be added. So what do you guys think? Would this be a good/bad idea? What should his name be, or did Reardon actually survive? [editline]April 7th 2013[/editline] We could also stash him somewhere in white forest, when we do EP2.
IDK about full body awareness, means you have to decide about the HEV helmet. It's sorta implied the only reason that Gordon, Alyx, Eli, Magnusson and Kliener survived was because they were all pawns in Gman's plan or whatever. Basically, adding another scientist would sorta damage various parts of the story and make Gman seem less evil, maybe say that he was off-site visiting family or something and he got taken in by Eli.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/HkDa3Qi.png[/t]
Only if he wear these ridiculous ties.

Maybe he could just sorta just recap the time between HL1 and HL2 in more detail, because that's part of what Black Mesa East is for.
IDK about full body awareness, means you have to decide about the HEV helmet.
Considering in all the art he never wears one, I'd say he shouldn't wear one. It's not really that much of a miracle, I'd dare say plenty of people survived. In HL1, at the lambda complex, the scientist says he 'stayed behind to help you and any stragglers' (or something like that), meaning there were probably at least a few other scientists there that escaped. Also in Blue Shift, Barney and a van of other scientists escape BM, and remember, the writer for the HL series said that "anything in OF and BS can be considered canon, unless stated otherwise by VALVe's games". I find it quite hard to believe Eli, Alyx (who probably wasn't at BM), Kleiner, Gordon, Magnusson, and Barney were the only survivors, and the only reason they survived was because of G-man's plans for them.

They activated and programmed a teleporter to fling themselves through the unstable space with enough precision to land them in a parking lot while being shot at by HECU soldiers making a last minute escape. And they only got 4 plus a security guard, I'm fairly certain it took a lot of effort and I don't think most scientists had teleporters to escape the military perimeter.
The guys in the Lambda Core had a teleporter active. Who's to say they didn't use it after Gordon went to Xen

Also at least a few could have escaped during the military insertion, and at other points in the games. Saying that only, like 15 scientists survived is pretty absurd, there are plenty of areas hinting that more escaped. I'd say at least a good 2 dozen made it out, if not more. [editline]7th April 2013[/editline]
The guys in the Lambda Core had a teleporter active. Who's to say they didn't use it after Gordon went to Xen
Agreed. Or even before Gordon went to Xen.
The guys in the Lambda Core had a teleporter active. Who's to say they didn't use it after Gordon went to Xen
That didn't work out so well for them... [t]http://images.wikia.com/half-life/en/images/5/57/Dead_HEV_scientist_on_Xen.jpg[/t]
decide about the HEV helmet.
Have Gordon put on his helmet via scripted map areas (during hazardous area's) maybe give an overlay over the players view or something, ~maybe even display the radioactive levels on some HUD when its on.
Jeez. Getting things close to the original Valve texture is extremely hard. I wish I had the original reference. [t]http://www.wauterboi.com/screenies/brickwall017a_-_valve.png[/t][t]http://www.wauterboi.com/screenies/brickwall017a.png[/t] This is not a viable replacement, and I'm going to have to redo it. What I want to know is how far I can deviate from the original - i.e. do I have to have the same rips in the bricks as the original?
If you replace the texture entirely it will look like Fakefactory, maybe the alpha has some better textures you could reference from. Whats the name of the texture? Ill check for you
I think if they're pretty close at a passing glance they'll be alright.
Well the alpha 'sometimes' provides textures like 'lower' 'upper' and 'middle' sections of walls Where the upper is dirty at the top while the lower is dirty at the bottom, as the middle stays clean. Just something noticed when messing around in the WC map pack. Many unused textures were removed(like valve kept the dirty lower texture and deleted the upper sections), while a developer could greatly benefit from them.

[editline]8th April 2013[/editline]
If you replace the texture entirely it will look like Fakefactory, maybe the alpha has some better textures you could reference from. Whats the name of the texture? Ill check for you
You have to replace the texture entirely to make it higher resolution, the mistake FF made when doing that, however, was not making the textures anywhere close to the originals. We're making the textures 2048x2048 (we'll resize them down to 1024x1024 if we have to if we get performance issues) while still keeping to the general look of the original.
You have to replace the texture entirely to make it higher resolution.
I'm aware. The texture remake he did is great, I just durped when I saw the two textures side-by-side and thought the right was a recreation of the left and assumed it was a non-exact high-res replica. EDIT: Durp again, it is. the texture looks too red, though I'm sure in-game it wont be noticeable, I'm never taking drugs again :v: (everyone thinks; "Where's the smarked rating when I need it?") EDIT2: Durp a 3rd time, are those 4 different textures or comparison shots? I'm so confused

The ones on the right are the 2 remakes (scaled down for comparison).
Regardless, I'm going to have to redo mine because I forgot to keep it on grid and did a few mistakes that warrant a complete redo. I tried to add the defining bricks from the original but I couldn't get it to look right. But it's nice to think people think I did pretty good! :D I'll have to try again tonight.
Here's a shitty animation of the iris version, I think I prefer the slide version though.
Now the HEV suit has an Iron Man arc reactor in it.
