i believe with the way the animation system works with some champions you actually attack faster by changing the animation and then changing back rapidly, i may be wrong but it seems to be what i have observed

The mass majority of the changes decrease prices, what's a dozen or two skins increasing a bit compared to the 80 or so skin that did decrease in cost.
Some skins that are REALLY good are going to be cheaper now. You don't always need new particle effects or voice acting, sometimes a simple retexture can be very nice; Spellthief Lux, Ironscale Shyvana, Northern Front Swain, Musketeer TF, Outback Renekton, Aviator Irelia etc. I mean holy shit. Earthrune skarner is going to be only 520 and that skin kicks massive amounts of ass.
It's never nice when prices go up but at least we have a notice of it, so if you want some for cheaper before they go up, buy up.
Northern Front Swain is a beast skin. It suits Swain so well.

They wanted to make a "big" update, so they decided to do an ice related one: an ice themed reedition of the proving grounds for matchmaking, new/redone ice themed champions, ice themed reskins, etc.
How viable is riven mid? I used to play her a lot top, but I've fallen out of practice, and I started trying jungle and mid lately. I like that she has a lot of gank potential and that she waveclears super fast, but I keep getting poked down really fast, even with flat MR blues.

Her ganking potential isn't THAT good, she's no Pantheon/Eve/TF/Jarvan. It's solid but not amazing, a 1s stun only goes so far even with gap closers. She is damn powerful though. If you can hold out until 6 you can pretty much roflstomp any AP carry middle, you obviously wouldn't pick her versus a bruiser though. Just don't pick her into something like Zyra; Snares up the ass don't really go well for Riven.
Honestly, you can't go wrong with riven mid if you just use some common sense. Yeah she got nerfed but she still snowballs fairly well and can get downright scary. So.... Yeah, nothing wrong with riven mid, nothing wrong with riven anywhere really.
