• Why can't I run BioShock on at least medium graphics?

The 8800GTX is a very old card now, a ATI 4770 is a very good deal, but if you have more cash perhaps go for a 4870 or a GTX260.
Why would you recommend him an older card?
It's not a very old card at all, still supports all of my games on high settings, can play crysis almost perfectly on highest settings, and it's not too expensive. Your ram is fine. I have a very good pc. Core 2 duo E8600 3.16 Ati 4870 1gb Intel dp4sg Extreme 2gb ddr3 ram. I just have 2gb of ram and i can run Crysis maxed out. (it is ddr3 tough)

UE3 really needs a dual core. that's what you're missing.

The lighting in Bioshock is a lot more demanding.
