only because of the new graphics it introduced. best for me was final fantasy 2, which is considered the black sheep of the ff series.

Definitely the deepest game in a very long while.
But it doesn't really have RPG elements (Although you do assume the roles of different characters), it kind of lacks real gameplay at all, it's more of an interactive movie.

And if you're looking for Online RP of that game, get Discovery Freelancer. It re-enables the online servers and there's the official RP server with nearly all the slots occupied all the time. usually 150 to 199/200 players online.
If you're looking for a FPS with a good story, I recommend Metro 2033. I goth both endings and I'm still reading my pre-ordered copy of the book. The lecture is [i]delicious.[/i]
