Attachment to fictional characters - Is it normal?

I do it all the time, especially in WoW;WotLK. Though I can blame my obsession for that.
My hate of Malygos has never been stronger.
When strickland died in crysis, the last few chapters had a real feeling of despair for me.
Strickland was a pretty cool guy.
Not as cool as Issac Clarke.
The only game character I feel an attachment to is Visas in KOTOR:Sith Lords, just because all she does is talk about how she is attached to you and how her fate is linked to yours.
I did the same thing in Mass Effect and the KOTOR's.
The choice was tough for me in Mass Effect, (I hate both Ashley and Kaiden, and to see either of them die would have brought me boundless joy) but eventually I saved the prospective pussy.
I had a thing for Rikku from FFX back in the day.

Fucking cute as hell.
I always preferred Yuna. Just seemed the more real and likable character to me.
It's normal, but I find it weird to get attached to anyone on in any CoD game besides 4, the character development is like 5%
Call of Duty 2: Big Red One. I loved the characters.

Why the fuck is she wearing a scarf and a bikini with cargo pockets on her skirt.
Is she that fucking confused about what she wants her clothes to do?

FUCKING SHIT [sp]BROOKLYN DIED[/sp] GODDAMNIT. :argh:
It's normal, the whole point of the game / story being written is to attach you to the characters for immersion and also emotional involvement

Tai and Carmine in Gears of War 2 D:
GTA4 failed for me, I wasn't attached to anyone, just Roman was funny and sometimes Niko.
Half-life 2 and the episodes did a great job.
I was so happy when [sp]Roebuck[/sp] died in COD: WaW. He was such a douche. He kept blocking doorways, making it impossible to get through. When I took cower behind something he always rushed over to me, pushed me out into enemy fire and stole my spot. All while repeatedly screaming "[sp]TAKE OUT THAT GODDAMN MACHINEGUN[/SP]" over and over again like a broken record. And he hardly ever killed an enemy. He just stood there and screamed at me. Fuck!
You might class this as off-topic, but when Dumbledore dies in HP, I was gutted.
However, I believe there are HP games around, so therefore not offtopic, correct?
Yes it's normal. Afterall even the people we see everyday in reality are nothing but electrical signals to us (you don't really "see" the person, you see the light they emmit that hits your eyes, nor do you really "hear" them, it's just a calculation of the brain based on the vibration in your ear-drum). So yes, you can get attached to a video game character just like you get attached to a real one. Except that it's harder to get attached to a fictional one, and usually you don't get that attached to fictional ones (because you know that they don't really feel anything).
And yeah I've gotten attached to characters, especailly in Bioware games and in some others too. Of course I don't get so attached that I cry when they die, but I sure as hell feel sad and/or angry when they do.
When [sp]Ashley shot Wrex[/sp] in Mass Effect, I was PISSED.
[sp]I reloaded the game twice to stop it from happening. Then I sent Ashley to her doom.[/sp]
Actually Mass Effect is a perfect example.
The first time I played, I didn't use anyone but Tali and Wrex.
When [sp]Ashley shot Wrex[/sp] in Mass Effect, I was PISSED.
Same here, I was very pissed.
You can avoid that event by beefing up on your chat options. I always kill him the first time around when I'm focusing on major skills, but when I play quick to get to lvl 60 I keep him alive and prepare for ME2.
I'm aware of this, and it's what I now do in every playthrough. [sp]Wrex dying[/sp] only happened on my first playthrough, but when it did happen, I wanted to kill [sp]Ashley[/sp].
And I did.
To an extent, yes. Once you pass a barrier, you just get called fucking crazy. Spoiler:[sp]It's because you are batshit insane.[/sp]

WiC, when [sp]Captain Bannon dies.[/sp]
[editline]11:23AM[/editline]
Fuck spoiler tags :<
It is normal. I get attached to my infantry soldiers or when an Npc that have followed me around for a long time gets killed by some asshole.
Fuck you god damm german rushing in and punching him in the back! >:(
Aerith From FF7 (Aeris? Forget her name exactly)
So sad, just wanted to punch Square Enix.
Aeris. It's Aerith in the Japanese version and in Crisis Core.
i usually get attached to characters in games, and sometimes annoyed, and that leads me screaming at them for their stupid actions
I got really attached to my squad mates in Republic Commando.
[sp] Alright here's my list:
Carmine when he gets headshot.
Wrex in mass effect
Seed-Neus and Dar-Ma from Oblivion.
Deathwatch Captain Bannon. (Not WiC, he's from a 40k book)
Jack Bauer from 24.
John Freeman. [/sp]
[sp]Mom from Fable ( I turned evil after this, focused on berserk and wrecked some faces )
Start of Mother 3 with their mom
Dad in Fallout 3 ( I wrecked some faces after this )
Red, Clarence, and the lady doctor from Penumbra
Dark Brotherhood after you're ordered to kill them - even the asshole was nice to me ...
When the Sabbat kill Heather ( your ghoul ) in Bloodlines[/sp]
Generally, when you are forced to either kill your friends / people constant with you, or are forced to watch them die :ohdear:. I usually feel bad about for a while until I've 'avenged' them in the game, so to speak.
