Attachment to fictional characters - Is it normal?

I thought wrex was a douche.
MAFIA: I was attached to everyone, that game had mindblowing amazing character development.
GTA4 was good too, I like roman, jacobs ok too I guess....
I under stand [sp]Red[/sp], but [sp]Clarence[/sp]? What? I hated him so damn much.
I hated him the first time, but the second time through some things came through to me on him.
[sp]When he first makes himself known, you two have a battle for control of the body and beat him.[/sp] I'm assuming that means the rest of the nudists running around are people who [sp]lost their battle[/sp] and became hosts.
To me, this makes [sp]Clarence[/sp] a somewhat tragic hero in the game, given that he usually acts in your favor [sp]except for the parts where he demonstrates his powers, like with the eye scanner door and the lady doctor[/sp] and, in the end, [sp]is destroyed by his flaw of becoming somewhat human[/sp].
I just became attached to his character and dialog the second time through because I was thinking about it.
[sp]When phoenix wright lost his badge[/sp] :saddowns:
To an extent, yes. Once you pass a barrier, you just get called fucking crazy. Spoiler:[sp]It's because you are batshit insane.[/sp]

Well, I'm not like those guys, who would probably do horrible sexual things to their badly-drawn, generic anime character if they could.
I get sad when my mates from STALKER die.
They got names and everything.
and weirdly enough, Clyde from FarCry2..
I ended up OD'ing him, which makes me even sadder.
Why wouldn't attachment to fictional characters be normal? Isn't that the purpose of a move/story/game, to draw you into it and immerse yourself in it?
Also, when I mistakenly kill a friendly NPC, I go 'NOOOOO!', and rush over to the body, crouch, and start apologizing.
Like in CODWAW on Downfall, when you get to basically [sp]free-snipe Germans from the upper levels[/sp], I occasionally blow a teammate's arm off, and I immediately rush down the stairs to see if he's ok.
Not many game characters i have been attached to, but let's see now Three book characters, in company of heroes it just dosen't fell right to send Twelve volkgranadiers to near certain death, only to take and secure a pair of american howitzers and some minor characters from other games sutch as the turtle general from RA2 (he's in one cut-scene) and Mac Millan from cod4, Two movie character : Black Adder and dr krauss from hell boy 2. Can't think of any one else right now.
The Ep2 Vort who follows you for like half the game. :( NO DON'T GO AND LOOK FOR ADVISORS, COME WITH US :'(

Vorts are fucking cool, there should be more in Episode 3.
Yes, it's called "good story telling" and "characters people relate to" and people get shiny awards for it.
Games are usually designed in a way that you would form a bond to the character you're controlling or feel for them. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

This. I was devastated when I found out that [sp] Paulie had been killed. [/sp] :crying:
Pikmin was a terrible game for me. I got so damn sad when they died in such horrid ways :ohdear:
Only game that got me was the end of MGS4. If you've not played 3 it was pretty shite, but if you had it was pretty sad :'(.

What? I hadn't even played 3 ever and I thought the ending summed it all up pretty damn well.
Any squads of troops in ANY RTS', I feel bad whena squad is killed and send in more troops to avenge them, then they die and I send in more...It's a vicious cycle.
Also, [sp]Eli from Half Life 2. Nooooooooooo[/sp]
And [sp]Wrex from Mass Effect:
"I'll calm him down, don't worry about it" *BOOM. HEAD SHOT*[/sp]
And also [sp]Dad[/sp] from Fallout 3. You self sacrificing bastaerd -.-
When [sp]Ashley shot Wrex[/sp] in Mass Effect, I was PISSED.
-snip- little too stoned.
How could i fucking forget that.

:crying::crying:
Oh, come on. It's Fallout 3. i didn't get attached to any freaking characters in that game with the possible exception of Fawkes, 'cause he's cool.
What? I hadn't even played 3 ever and I thought the ending summed it all up pretty damn well.
Well if you played 3 you actually played as him, saw all the stuff he went through, all his pain and the death of the boss. Had much more of an effect when you saw Big Boss die.
I fucking cried when in MGS4 [sp]Big Boss die's in the hands of Snake and when Raiden die's to sacrifice his life for Snake and when Naomi kills herself and the microwave scene fucking shed manly tears and in MGS3 When you have to shoot The Boss. :crying:[/sp]
[sp]The scene in 3 where Eva tells Snake about the Boss' mission always gets me. :([/sp]
COD4 genuinely made me feel depressed after playing it and killing people, weird cause I'm not usually like that. And in RTS games I feel bad when I make the infantry charge into their deaths after all other troops are dead, I can just imagine the captains screaming "we need air support" and command just going "sorry" while they get slaughtered :(
I used to get upset when my random faceless marine friends from Halo died
I often send tons of my soldiers to their death.
[sp]Dad in Fallout 3[/sp]
Video game characters are meant to do that.
For example, with Alyx, [sp]When the hunter impaled her, it was a shocker.
Same goes with Eli Vance when he got his brains sucked out at the end of Ep 2.
Amazingly, the death of Sgt. Major Johnson at the end of Halo 3 was also another sad moment.[/sp]
Is it bad I didn't give a flying shit about either?
But to the OP- I was touched when Streknov or w/e sees you [sp]get shot, then he goes into a fit of absolute blinded RAGE/I]and whips out a machete, and brutalises the Nazi.[/sp] I was like
Oh, come on. It's Fallout 3. i didn't get attached to any freaking characters in that game with the possible exception of Fawkes, 'cause he's cool.
You've obviously never met Harold.
Persona 3 [sp]In the expansion pack's second campaign, which takes place a few months after the end of the game, you learn the main character died. I actually felt really, really sad, I have no idea why. The main character has no personality, in fact, every single action in the game, relationships with other characters, how they react to things etc is chosen by the player. I guess it is a reaction of personal loss I think, spending so much time on this extension of yourself and having him die off struck a chord with me.[/sp]
Umm... spoiler tags, please?
[sp] He never dies. If you've played the game, you would have (hopefully) noticed a little cutscene at the end where you learn Snake survives the bullet (by some miracle). Go watch it on youtube or, better yet, go play the game if you can.[/sp]
i did genius, i put fucking spoiler tags, are you blind?
