Attachment to fictional characters - Is it normal?

Also am I the only one that get's attached to characters even if they want to kill you? Like bosses and villains.
Cried a bit at the end of Mafia because [sp]Tommy died and all.[/sp]
Now, that game has some extremely loveable characters.
I rarely play a video game where I am attached to the characters. GTAIV did a good job. I didn't think it was a big deal in CODWAW, I wasn't attached to the characters much.
To an extent, yes. Once you pass a barrier, you just get called fucking crazy. Spoiler:[sp]It's because you are batshit insane.[/sp]

Good god that is the most sickening thing I have ever seen, also when dad dies in Fallout 3.
I felt like shit in Fallout 3 when I chose to leave that guy behind cause he was sick or something in the sewers. I spent like 20 minutes talking to everyone to see if I could say sorry and tell him he can come along with us. I had like 15 stimpacks to spare.
There is no such thing as normal.
When [sp]Ashley shot Wrex[/sp] in Mass Effect, I was PISSED.
I saved him using Charm.

Hmm, what kind of bosses are they? You mean like The Boss or Big Boss?
Hrrmmm... Attachments in video games... Well, there was that bit in FFVII that I feel somwhat disgusted about now.
Henh, here's a dirty little childhood secret of mine. In Disney's Beauty and the Beast, I cried when Gaston died.
I get attached to my dogs on Nintendogs, but I sold the game and stuff and I feel no sorrow
I hated having Wrex die in Mass Effect.
Also all my awesome generals in Rome Total War. I would go on epic campaigns with them and if they ever died I was so sad. Especially once when I was fleeing spain being taken over by Ostrogoths, I put all my best family members on a ship to sail to Jerusalem and they all got killed in a freak storm off the coast of Africa. I'll never forget them.
Hmm, what kind of bosses are they? You mean like The Boss or Big Boss?
Wesker, [sp]Sun Li[/sp] (Jade Empire) and Arantir in Dark Messiah for example. So yeah The Boss and such, those type of "villains", not simple arcade bosses you happen to find on the end of the levels.
This happens a lot to me in Fallout 3, it makes me feel bad if a character I could have protected dies, so I always end up loading and protecting them even if it doesn't give me any benefits.

When James died in Fallout 3...Made me sad :(

The meanest moment in any videogame I have ever played. :(
Aww...What did they do to Jenny? :v:
:crying:
Yeah, I can get attatched to game characters, but not to the extent you described. And only if they're either black or British
I got attached to duck in duck hunt
i feel bad in RTS games when my infantry get killed
i also feel bad for minor npc soldier guys that follow me around or just stand around and shoot things that get killed in terrible, painful ways :ohdear:
I bet the guys ordering thousands upon thousands of soldiers to run over No Man's Land only to be cut down by german machine gun nests didn't really give a shit either. It's a different experience on the ground.
Sorry for the emotional reply, Cousin's going into the Marine Corps and I just finished Generation Kill among a few other things, I just have a thing against that kind of atittude.
When I play ArmA with ACE Mod, when one of my guys get shot I make it my priority to save him, even if it means finding a dead enemy medic and taking his epinephrine. Only for the guy to get back up and get shot when running at the enemy :(
Also, in RTS, Act of war especially, I try my best to keep infantry alive. I always use the chopper to medevac the wounded and sometimes even go to the extent of having 2 hospitals. After about an hour of playing I'll have a load of elite guys and I'll have one each leading their own squad of 8. If they die it's really annoying but I don't get emo over it :v:
Video game characters are meant to do that.
For example, with Alyx, [sp]When the hunter impaled her, it was a shocker.
Same goes with Eli Vance when he got his brains sucked out at the end of Ep 2.
Amazingly, the death of Sgt. Major Johnson at the end of Halo 3 was also another sad moment.[/sp]
Fuck damn, you should have tagged them separately, because when I clicked the box next to "Alyx", I got the Halo 3 ending aswell. DAMN YOU </3
I usually don't get attached to game characters, but one time in Hearts of Iron 2, I had a balls-to-the-wall awesome Marshal leading my invasion of the Soviet Union, when one day he died in battle against overwhelming russian numbers.
I got so mad I moved my whole airforce to the eastern front and launched a 3 year air campaign with the goal of killing as much civilians as possible. The war ended only a month shy of 3 years of successfull devastating air raids on major soviet population centers. Fortunately it was just in time to prevent the western front, now in desperate need of air support, from collapsing.
Yeah, let's hope I never make president.
I fucking liked the salarian captain in Mass Effect, I don't know why. I did everything to make sure he surviived.

"We will hold the line!"
He would make a great squad member in Mass Effect 2.
I was attached to a group of Mercs in SoC that i stayed with during the night when i was travelling, fuck those bloodsucker bastards, fuck them for killing them.
EDIT
Also The Darkness was fucking amazing.
I was playing Command and Conquer: Generals, and my brave soldiers came across a few toxin tractors, I said out load "Run guys!" and sent them away, but most of them got annihilated, I felt really bad for the last few crawling on red health. Felt good to roll over the base later. :v:
alex vance can die she just has a ludicrous amount of health.
LUCA
Goddamn Godfather movies/game
If you ever find yourself getting attached to characters in films, books or games, it usually means they're doing a fucking good job of telling the story.
