I saved him using Charm.
Yeah, I was unaware he could die at that part. You guys must have had really low charm.
I remember getting attached to the characters in CoD: Big Red One on the original Xbox. GTA 4 did it aswell which is why I [sp]repeatedly shot the bodies of Dimitri's men after they gunned down Roman[/sp]
There was some game where [sp]you meet your brother in the first chapter, and then your brother is killed literally 5 minutes later.[/sp] It isn't a story plot if it's a character that's important to the player for 5 minutes. (The story was built around it)
I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but in Mother 3 [sp]your wife dies about 10 or 20 minutes into the game. Somehow they actually managed to make that depressing. You have to go to her funeral and everything. [/sp]
I usually don't get attached to game characters, but one time in Hearts of Iron 2, I had a balls-to-the-wall awesome Marshal leading my invasion of the Soviet Union, when one day he died in battle against overwhelming russian numbers. I got so mad I moved my whole airforce to the eastern front and launched a 3 year air campaign with the goal of killing as much civilians as possible. The war ended only a month shy of 3 years of successfull devastating air raids on major soviet population centers. Fortunately it was just in time to prevent the western front, now in desperate need of air support, from collapsing. Yeah, let's hope I never make president.
Hearts of Iron any fun? I've been pondering whether it's worth spending £15 on or not.
Only for movies and books, for some apparent reason games don't do much for me.
I get attached to the npc's that follow you around in HL2. I feel like their life is in my hands. If the die, I restart and make sure they live. I also shout "Don't you die on me!" at the screen, or berate them for walking out in front of snipers.
Happened to me in the KotORs and Lost Planet, to name a few.

I said a while back that people that get attached to non-recurring characters are screwed up in the head. I'm screwed up in the head. Course, for me, there's almost like 2 levels of attachement. There;s the kind I get between non-recurring characters, like this guy, and then the REAL characters, like Solid Snake or Otacon.
You felt something in WaW? Yes, something is wrong with you. I was happy when they died. That game was fucking terrible. However, I was sad when Price died in Modern Warfare, and I was most certainly affected by the death of Jenny in The Darkness.

That goddamn horse from Shadow of the Colossus.
I was sad when I was playing Fallout 3 Broken Steel and me and my Brotherhood of Steel buddies where killing shit and someone took us by surprise and I ended up with few survivors. I lost a lot of good men that day. [sp]And of course, when Liberty Prime got blown up. Damn.[/sp]
I did the same thing in Mass Effect and the KOTOR's.
Same for me with ME. But who dies in KotOR? I don't remember anyone dying.
One word: Mafia.
I never played Fallout 1 or 2, and Harold is still my favorite character. Burning him made me so sad :frown: And gokulol, you are one sick fuck.
[sp]What?! I didn't like him because he was an arrogant tank. Seriously, you could go the entire game with him and he probably'd never die [/sp]
[sp]What?! I didn't like him because he was an arrogant tank. Seriously, you could go the entire game with him and he probably'd never die [/sp]
Oh come on. Harold is one of the favorites among Fallout fans. A game has to do it very right for me to care, but it's not unheard of. There's only two games in recent history that have actually done that to me, neither of which were that amazing of stories shockingly. Mother 3 I did feel sad at the end, probably just because of it's wide range of emotions. It wasn't a sad game most of the time, it was just all over the place, and seeing a tragic ending with a happy result did hit me. The other was Cave Story, leaving Curly behind in the core room to drown. Once again, it wasn't all that tragic of a game in the beginning, and two because I actually could have done something to save her if I went out of my way to get an item, so I actually felt responsible for that one. As for other games like FFVII, meh, just didn't hit me that hard. It always held an extremely serious mood and it was just an event that was bound to happen.
How the fuck did you get attached to WaW's characters. All they did was yell. [editline]10:01PM[/editline]
I cried manly tears when [sp]Solid Snake (Old Snake) died, and when Eli died.[/sp] MANLY FUCKING TEARS.
Yeah it helps when you say what is behind spoiler tags.
gAZ from COD4
[sp]The Carmines died in GoW and GoW 2[/sp] They were my favorite characters in those games. [sp]Ben's death[/sp] was especially saddening. [sp]Damn you, Intestional digestion bugs![/sp]
Honestly, I got attached to the Big Daddies in Bioshock. I hated every time I had to kill one. I mean, yeah, they were serving a foul purpose and were programmed to care for the little sisters, but damn it, they were still caring for them. Killing the Daddies, watching the little sisters cry about the fallen "Mr. Bubbles", it just tugs a little at your heartstrings.
I got pretty sad when they [sp] killed holiday and the other female character (can't remember name) [/sp] in extraction point
So I was playing CODWAW the other night, and I played through the entirety of the campaign in about eight hours. Now, as all good stories go, certain major characters died. I expected this. What I did not expect was such an emotional reaction to their passing. If you haven't played CODWAW and don't want the story revealed, the rest is in spoiler tags. [sp]So at the final portion of the final American mission, Roebuck or Polansky will die, depending on your actions. I saved Polansky, not knowing this, and Roebuck died. I just stood over his corpse for a full 15 seconds, completely stunned. I watch the ending American cutscene, and almost cry as Polansky hands me Roebuck's dogtags. I later went through again and saved Roebuck, because I like him better. (He was voiced by Keifer Sutherland, the guy who plays Jack Bauer in 24.) I play the final Soviet missions, and in the 2nd to last one dies, Pvt. Chernov dies via flamethrower-wielding Nazi. Once again, I'm stunned, and just stare as he takes his last breaths. Sgt. Reznov takes his diary, which he berated Chernov for writing earlier, saying that nobody would read it, and says "Somebody... should read this.". At the end, Reznov gives an inspiring, but short speech, and I just want to say to him "I agree completely!".[/sp] Anyways, I also get attached to awesome characters who don't die, such as Sgt. Reznov, or Alyx Vance, or even minor characters such as Griggs and Sheckley. My question is, is this normal? Is anyone else like this?
yeah it is very normal (: lol i get the same feelings aha xD likee reading manga wen a character i like dies im like oh mi goddd : O and feel crappy XD hahahaha axel we'll miss u </3
yeah it is very normal (: lol i get the same feelings aha xD likee reading manga wen a character i like dies im like oh mi goddd : O and feel crappy XD hahahaha axel we'll miss u </3
This isn't a fucking chatroom. Also, yes. I do tend to get attach to some fictional characters. It's completely normal.
Mass Effect. The Decision. That one. The characters were so human, it was hard to leave one behind. And that decision is the worst I ever had to make. it haunted me for a while. Fuck you, Bioware, for making such a fucking sad moment. So yeah, I think it's normal to feel attachment when the characters are actual humans with feelings and strong personality.
Metal gear solid always had awesome characters, I luv 'em all. Also I just want to clear this up for Markntosh, [sp] Snake doesn't shoot himself in the end and miraculously surivive (otherwise he'd have a fucking hole in the back of his skull because it shows him putting the gun in his mouth) When you hear the gunshot it's most likely snake firing the gun in the air or something. [/sp] But anyway the end of 4, the fight with liquid, [sp] the death of big boss [/sp] and ALL of MGS3 (because it's the best, game, evaaaar) make me all emotional. Well not the fight with liquid anymore since I've played through it like 10 times.
don't know if it's normal but it happens to me too. [sp]like when the hunter stabbed alyx,[/sp] I was genuinely worried, and angry, until I got back to the vortigaunt on the other hand I think it's fucking ridiculous how many people actually cry over mgs.
[sp]Jenny from The Darkness when Uncle Paulie and Eddie Schrote kill her[/sp] ;-;
