I think BMF scared FAM away with their nitpicking. Some dude even went ahead and started a new thread for the next project even though FAM hasn't started that yet, and should logically be the one to start a new thread (which he wasn't going to do until it was near-finished to avoid said nitpicking).
I noticed that, I was like "oh hey he posted the new thr- wait what the fuck is this?"
Most of the extremely nitpicky feedback was from that one guy that double posts a million times, and one of the mods, though some of the suggestions made sense from him.
well, it's the end of the year 2012 and still got nothing about-oh
On A Rail, however, is a different beast. It's what I would call...a heavily "refined" product. It was a fairly unpopular chapter from HL, from what I could gather. This is due in part to its confusing and disorienting/long nature, which is what some people loved and others hated. It was divisive. The BM Devs alleviated this by shortening and simplifying the layout massively, which has proved to be...interesting. The cuts appear to be a purposeful design decision rather than a hasty bit of snipping on the parts of the designers. This is fine. Some people liked it. I liked it too, actually, but it was too short. The original OaR was...10 maps in length, and in Black Mesa it is 3 maps in length. If we take into account, however, the Black Mesa's maps are generally about roughly twice as long as HL's maps were, you still have 4 maps worth of cut content, and that's with a fairly generous estimate.
The problem here isn't "ZOMGZ I WANT MORE CONTENT BM DEVS SUCK," the problem is that OaR is supposed to convey a sense of journey - Gordon is using the transit system to reach the rocket. Black Mesa's OaR is simply so short it falls a bit flat, in this regard. He could have walked. In fact, in Black Mesa's OaR a lot of your time IS SPENT walking, probably half - two thirds if I had to make a quick guess off the top of my head.

Looks like he has a good idea already
So, the official Black Mesa torrent was taken off of Media Fire...
Anyone got it/know where else it was uploaded?

It's already used in the Surface Tension Uncut mod though.
25:40, he uses it for the final battle:

They should have made the helicopter battle like, instead of being a flying attack bunker, it'll go down in 3-5 hits. The thing is it has an on-board jammer which disables the tracking system for the RPG, so you need to fight it the unguided rockets instead.

Decrease hp by 50%
Decrease accuracy by 50%
increasy dmg a little
Make it unrealistically good at outmaneuvering rockets

Yeah, in one of their videos, you can see some of them wearing bms t-shirts when it first was released.
Damn, I tried to give the Vorts attack lines, but I failed due to actually having no idea what I'm doing;

Facepunch, how did you guys get past the first helicopter encounter in Surface Tension? Either I don't kill the Marines and get run down, kill the Marines and get run down, or jump in to the water without activating the collapsing bridge and get run down by the helicopter. Any thoughts?

I shot at it with my Gauss gun and crippled it (as much as I could with the stupid prevention scripting, it was smokin')

I shoot at it with the Tau Cannon.
[editline]5th January 2013[/editline]
Don't worry about the Marines, they take cover behind a barricade and never advance. If you stay by the warehouse and parking lot, they rarely give you any trouble unless you stand in the middle of the street (which is bad anyway). Take cover behind one of the vehicles and charge a shot while you wait for it to fly overhead, then shoot it. You can either do this twice, or follow up by hitting it with a charged shot, then following up with a barrage of uncharged shots. When it takes too much damage, it'll burst into flames and retreat.

I killed them all before i took the tau cannon on.
Alright, never actually thought of engaging the helicopter. Thanks guys!
I think I just noticed something, do the Grunts even use the 'hgrunt_young' voice at all? It seems every grunt I engage uses the 'tough guy' voice and none of them are using the 'young' voice' (which happens to be the one I prefer)
Also it seems there are no "npc_sounds" files for any human characters, or at least I cannot find them. There exist some for other characters. Speaking of though, I managed to get my extra vort sounds to work by listing them under the "alert" response instead of creating an "attack" response (which doesn't work because it's not scripted to exist) :D

Ichthyosaurs have pretty much become crossbow sushi in Black Mesa
Aside from the fact you can take them down with two crossbow bolts or - if you're not in a very sporting mood - less than a full pistol clip with their base health, they're pretty slow compared to their goldsrc equivalents IMO. The originals barrel towards you screaming all the way the moment you piss them off, whilst these ones seem more sluggish, giving you enough time to pop a few bolts through their forehead before they get a single hit in. Coupled with source water's proper transparency and how the crossbow feels more accurate to me here, and the Ichthyosaur fails to be a credible threat to me. The only change about them that gives them an advantage is that they instantly lock on to where you are the moment you enter the water.
I buffed them up in the config - double health and damage and slightly faster speed - and even then they were only slightly harder to take on.
Considering everything else returning in Black Mesa seems twice as deadly as before - Bullsquids with a massing splashing spit instead of a tiny snotball blindly whizzing past your head, Vorts with much quicker blasts energy, Gargantuas now godmoded against non-scripted weaponry, Marines with super-human reaction times etc - it seems a shame the one enemy that always worried me is much less of a threat than before.

I vaguely remember reading that all the grunts were going to use the 'young' voice and the officer was going to use the 'tough' voice. I wonder if it's possibly to make it that way. I'd poke around more but there's only so much you can learn by looking at text files with notepad.
