If that's the case, then they shouldn't have used the HL2 vortigaunt voices.
I would've rathered rerecordings of the old sounds.
I would've rathered rerecordings of the old sounds.
And only Valve has those, if they still have those. How would the BMS team get them?

We have the old sound effects in the Half Life game files don't we? A lot of it are vocalizations, just mimic it as best you can. Used to do it all the time when I played with legos. (I played Half Life when I was 7, rubbed off on me.)

For the vortigaunt voices, I actually found this at gamebanana a while back and thought that I should share this with you guys: http://blackmesa.gamebanana.com/sounds/18117
What if I took the HL2 leak Vort sounds and made them into BM Vort sounds? They were much closer to HL1's Vorts, kinda unpleasant sounding as well. For non-English Vort sounds, I could just use the ol' reversal trick.
I didn't know leak vorts had different sounds.

amazing voice acting unparallelled
amazing voice acting unparallelled
Nearly all of the lines in the leak are either placeholderes or temporary, most of them (especially for major characters) were rerecorded before the game came out. That includes the Vorts, obviously. The problem with that voice is that while it sounds like HL1's Vorts, it's also just, weird. It's probably why Valve decided to use a much deeper and clearer voice at the cost of consistancy between HL1 and HL2.

I actually kinda like that. It sounds much more like the HL1 sounds and, if it was re-recorded in that style or even if the default sounds were run through whatever-the-fuck filter that is, could work great.
Meh, did it anyway. Now just to see what it's like in game. [editline]22nd April 2013[/editline] It's not bad.
Can you post a video about it?
Been replaying Black Mesa. Man, I can't wait till Xen and BMDM are released. Any word on a possible release date yet? (probably not but eh)
No. It seems they're destined to take forever on this now too. In my opinion they should've just remade the original and released it with maybe a few modifications. They take too long with things to do it like this.
On the bright side, though, it means I can make plenty of prototypes for Deathmatch maps, finalize those and release them on day 1 of multiplayer release!
Can you post a video about it?
I can try, Fraps does not like me though, videos tend to lag real bad and it desync's the sound.
Don't use fraps! https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Demo_Recording_Tools
Is it possible to use this old SMG model in Black Mesa? I like it better than the one it shipped with. It'd be even better with the animations in this pack but that's beyond my abilities to do.
Dota 2 will have a Houndeye Courier: http://www.cyborgmatt.com/2013/04/dota-2-24th-april/#houndeye-courier Isn't that a modified BM's model? http://wiki.blackmesasource.com/images//0/0f/43_1.jpg I feel sorry for the folks at Neogaf, reading it as a sign of Half-Life 3 :v:

It looks like something from Valve themselves.
The courier will be bundled in with the upcoming Half-Life 3 release as a preorder bonus.
what
what
It's probably just that site trolling. The rest of the information seems to be real.

Head to where Black Mesa is Installed (probably in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\BMS) 2. Go into sound > weapons > mp5 (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\BMS\sound\weapons\mp5) 3. Create a new folder and move Single1, Single2, and Single3 somewhere (or delete them, but it's recommended you keep 'em as backups) 4. Move smg1_fire1 to the folder you were just in. Now since there's only one of this and 3 of those, you can just copy it twice so that you have 3. 5. Rename the new files Single1, Single2, and Single 3. Now the SMG will use the new sound.

Oh, well, you got your answer from it anyway :v:

These could easily be placeholder sounds. Remember when everyone complained because they assumed the placeholder Wheatley voice would be better than Stephen Merchant?
