Mass Effect Megathread: I should *go*. *I* should go. I *should* go.

Miranda is pretty useful on Insanity when she isn't being fucktarded and standing outside of cover.
Although I use characters who can use sniper rifles exclusively in ME2. The Incisor is bugged and does full damage when squadmates use it, otherwise they take like a 50 percent hit in damage with any other weapon. Get 2 guys (Garrus and Zaeed <3) with Incisors and a ton of sniper upgrades, they actually become useful as shooters on Insanity. Otherwise squaddies are pretty much useless as far as firepower goes.
The Geth Plasma Shotgun rips most people to shreds.
I found geth juggernaut. It's everything I dreamed it would be.
Hmm... is there any reason why mass effect goes like it's starting up when I want to play but doesn't load at all?
Oh, I had the exact same issue, it's really odd. Basically just start steam in administrator mode, and then run the game. If that doesn't work, which it should, start steam in admin mode and then find the mass effect executable and run that as admin too. After one or two times booting that way it should launch normally each time, not sure why it does that.

Thanks I'll try that then.
I was just browsing Flipboard, seeing what's new, accidentally came across this article

i'm sorry mister article writer, but you're going to have to leave if you don't like sharp objects stuck in your eyes

Is Frostbite even friendly for modding?
Is Frostbite even friendly for modding?
According to DICE and EA it's not.
help
people are trying to tell me 2 was the best game in the series
they're wrong
1 and 2 are tied for the best. 3 would have been up there as well if not for being rushed, the botched ending, and the angst.
I'd say 2 was the most fun to play. It had the best balance of RPG vs. TPS.
ME1 just felt dry, but it had the best intentions with its freedom of exploration and the RPG conversation system.

I think combat systems similar to ME1 are underrated. They're rough, sure, but they give the player a fair bit of freedom. An end-game adept is a game breaker not because of damage, but because you can basically turn off gravity for enemies at will. It's similar with RPGs like Morrowind. There's the fuckawful dice-roll mechanics, but put some effort into it and you become a master of the elements that levitates above everyone raining lightning and sadness. It's a sense of progression that isn't present in a lot of modern RPGs.
The combat got better with each installment but ME1 is still the best one. The story is solid and conversation system gives you much more freedom than the other games.

Although, I think it's really fair to say that it comes close.
On another note, my ME3 playthrough to get to Citadel DLC has been but on indefinite hold as my replacement Xbox keeps overheating. I thought it was the fan's fault, so I replaced it from my broken Xbox, and the damn thing overheats faster now.
So now, I'm gonna try getting an external fan, and hopefully that'll fix it. I really don't wanna have to get another fucking Xbox.

Someone said it before but, it pretty much goes like this:
Mass Effect - Best Story
Mass Effect 2 - Best balance of Story and Gameplay
Mass Effect 3 - Best Gameplay

It really does come close, that's part of what makes it such a disappointment to me. They were so close to nailing the finale of a great game trilogy, and they missed it due to an unrealistic deadline and Mac Walters. And it still isn't a bad game despite those issues, just not what it could have been.

While I completely agree with all of that, and that Mass Effect 1 had the best story, it still had the worst dialogue and voice acting IMO. Something that goes unsaid quite a lot I think.
Yeah, it wasn't until 2 that characters and voice acting really hit their stride. More than once in 1 the same line is used for every dialogue option you have. For example, you always compare the genophage to the contact war when you talk with Wrex, and it always uses the same voice line.

Maybe we'll hit the Jackpot and whatever comes next in the ME universe will have the plot of 1, the characters of 2, and the combat of 3.

The only thing i had about 3 is that not only does space still do everything but now it does more.
I dislike 2 simply because I had it on PS3. It would sometimes take a full minute to load just from going to one floor of the Normandy to another. It also made me feel shitty, everyone being all like "Hey Shep-...oh. You're with Cerberus. Well fuck you."
Also, I had a dream last night:
Super
Mass
Bros.
Brawl

Oh.
My.
God.
Shep's final smash would be pulling out a Cain.
Shep vs the council. His finisher is letting Sovereign kill them as they try to escape.
Holy shit, just joined the match and saw a guy, firing M-98 Widow like an Assault rifle. Quited instantly, should have written his name..

Or the Mako drops in and you just crush everyone.
Joker breaks his arm at people. Tali sends drones out. liara can sigularity and stuff. Final boss you have to fight Harbinger, Tabuu style.
Fighting game in ME universe sounds amazing, but I always had this in mind.
Battlefield 2186.

I remember there was one conversation where they said "behind the crates" in just about every sentence. Also telling Joker to pick them up "on the double, MISTER!"

When I first opened my BF3 case and saw this.

I nearly had a heart attack. A BF game in Mass Effect would be great.
Biotics would be way OP though. Nobody likes getting lifted into the air or thrown across the room every 3 seconds.
There was a game like that planned, called Mass Effect: Team Assault. Got cancelled early on though.

That was a mod for Unreal Tournament 2004 as far as I can recall.

Nope. It's what Bioware Montreal were working on before they were moved onto ME3 multiplayer duties.
