Mass Effect Megathread: I should *go*. *I* should go. I *should* go.

God I hate this new layout they are going with on the gawker sites.
It would be an interesting release but it'd probably end up being mediocre and standard.
Aye; I mean it doesn't even show a sodding health bar. I have certain expectations for games with health systems; if it doesn't show you your health in an easily deducible fashion, it won't endear me as much.
Having certain elements being represented in ways other than on a HUD can be done right however; the action-horror series of Dead Space has a good example with the health bar being on the character's spacesuit, and Brutal Legend, though it has the health problem of not being all too specific with how hurt you are until the screen goes red, has the magic "overheat" system be represented on the hero's guitar wherein the guitar starts glowing hot as you unleash your magic attacks.
What you should NEVER do as a developer is have the health be represented in the "bloody screen" style; you can't gauge how hurt you are until the screen is covered in raspberry jam and you're having trouble seeing anything other than jam until you go behind a wall and headbutt a piece of toast. In first-person games it's a fair bit harder to make a system wherein you properly represent health without giving you a good ol' fashioned health bar in the HUD, but that's not a bad thing; health bars might take up a bit of screen space all the time, but it's usually still less space than having the screen turn into raspberry jam and take up even more space.
Minimal HUD is overrated anyways; you don't usually need all that screen-space anyways for most games, and with HUD elements on the screen, you don't have to make your gun models huge or make the camera zoom in on your back when you bring your gun up. And don't get me started on health systems yet; I feel I've talked about that enough recently.

Maybe it wasn't done yet.
I'm debating whether or not to re-buy the Citadel DLC. $15 is a lot.
Also, from the Mass Effect Wiki:
According to Chris Priestly, Tali was almost not included in Mass Effect 3 as a full squadmate. Patrick Weekes convinced the team otherwise.
What is this nonsense
Holy shit, just joined the match and saw a guy, firing M-98 Widow like an Assault rifle. Quited instantly, should have written his name..
I don't understand this logic, You would still get XP and Credits by the end of the day and if it was on gold or plat even better as you wouldn't have to worry about dying because super hacker was on the case
What is this nonsense
I mean, they basically did that [sp]with Legion (though not as a squadmate)[/sp], so it would make sense if more characters were like that.
Honestly, it would've been cool to have more ME2 squadmates come in as temporary squadmates, lasting about 3 main missons before doing their own thing, but then again people would be pissed why they couldn't be entire squadmates.

hacks aren't cool, man.
No one wants to be artificially high...on the scoreboards.
Maybe it wasn't done yet.
Well there is that, though I think even in an alpha build you'd at least have basic representations of the player's "attributes" like health. Unless the red bar above the ammo was the health, although it reminds me somewhat of the overheat mechanic from the original ME.

It was originally stated that she being an admiral and all, she'd need to stay with the fleet, so after the quarian part she would go. But Tali fanboys (like me) didn't like that.
Also, i'm going to do an everyone dies playthrough.
Kill Wrex, do the bare minimum loyalty mission, assign people to the wrong things and only have two left at the end. Then, if hes alive, leave Zaeed on his loyalty mission. Shoot the VS, have a very depressing party.

Good luck with the despair and anguish and all that.
That's pretty much how my first playthrough was, because I didn't know any better.
Well, I am playing ME3 again, just passed [sp]Curing the genophage, when I saw Mordin die trying to cure it, I just had to stop playing. It was like MGS3's The Boss's death again.[/sp]
God I hate this new layout they are going with on the gawker sites.
Which is what you get for reading gawker.
I look forward to the next Mass Effect because hopefully at that point they'll have decent facial animations.
Jesus, I haven't touched Mass Effect since the ME3 but even to this day Miranda Lawson's shit eating facial expression haunts me to this day. She's supposed to be this incredibly intelligent and devious woman, but all I can get from her poor excuse for face is an odd mix of brick-stupid and robotic. I swear whenever she talks in agitated manner, it feels like watching Kim kardashian self righteously trying to explain why the sun orbits the Earth.
I liked Miranda's face. At least they didn't have the whole Allers uncanny valley.

Whoever thought that was okay deserves to get shot.
what uncanny valley? all i see is ugly chubbyness

All I see is a cringe-worthy voiceactress.

Yeah I wouldn't say she looks good but she's not "OMG UGLY AS FUCK". I've seen worse.
EDIT:
Fuck pageking. Need to think of something smart...

She has a lazy eye. RMA her!
Yeah I wouldn't say she looks good but she's not "OMG UGLY AS FUCK". I've seen worse.
Only thing about her that's truly ugly as fuck is her personality... and her voice... and the fact that she's basically a symbol for so much wrongdoing.
I don't know about you but ME characters with real person's face (Sheploo, Samara, Miranda,...) always made me realize how shit the character creation system is and how most human and asari NPCs look the same.
To be fair, ME1 had lots of time and budget constraints on it. We wouldn't have had to wait until Omega to see a female Turian if the developers got what they wanted in ME1.

The problem is the head doesn't match the body, she has a middle-aged face coupled up with really unfitting long hair and the most weirdest dress in existence. (It's like sportswear or something? I'm pretty sure reporters don't wear this sort of stuff.)
I actually did this crappy ms paint mockup months back of what I think she should've looked like:

You could have just said you wanted Emily Wong.
You could have just said you wanted Emily Wong.
Too bad she was deemed not important enough, and died via twitter.
I realized the other day while playing the Citadel DLC, every character they put in that weird as fuck dress that Diana wears has the most ungodly vertically-stretched ass in the world.
Too bad she was deemed not important enough, and died via twitter.
It was because they wanted a good review from IGN, so since people loved punching the annoying reporter, it was either her, no Allers, or kill off Emily Wong on twitter and deny her existence.
Hell, she should have been in ME3, if not having her on the Normandy, give her the damn exclusive interview you promised.
Finished the trilogy with one char for the first time (i played me2 back in 2010, but this was real deal)...
I remember that a lot of people criticized me3 ending, but for me, it was perfect. Though i accidentally [sp]shot the kid first time and got that dlc ending which is worst imo[/sp]...After restart i did the [sp]destroy synthetics ending and with high ems [sp]my paragon Shepard even survived[/sp]. Mass Effect series are in my top 3 favorite, i can say games...
Also, one of the best soundtracks out there, my favorite, so emotional...
