That's why I'm recondsidering. Kaidan seems to have taken a level in badass for 3, while Ashley is a shining example of the assumption nobody pays attention to female characters that lack huge tits and form-fitting clothing.
Yeah, Kaiden's pretty cool in ME3, although the bit of dialogue he has if you talk to him right before the point of no return is rather...strange. To me, anyway.
I managed to get ME3 from the SimCity done fucked up thing.
I've played that more than SimCity and enjoyed the multiplayer immensely.
Kind of sucks that I missed the weekend things. I hope they put them on repeat sometime.

Yeah, ME3MP is really good. And isn't that sad that the multiplayer portion of a primarily single player RPG is the best part.

Revisiting the mp over the last couple weeks is the only reason I've gotten into the triple digits for hours in ME3. It's depressing to compare my SP time to ME1/2.
It may be time to do something I've never done before.
Let Kaiden survive Virmire.
Kaiden might be boring, but at least he's only boring because he's the most normal person on the SSV Daddy Issues.
How long do you usally wait to get into a multiplayer game? Was trying to get in last night, but never managed to find a game. I picked random on every choice I could.

When I shot Ash she cursed me to hell
When I shot Kaiden he apologized and said it was his bad

I always thought it was the SSV Loveboat?

I have a feeling though that because of the multiplayer, it took away a lot of the single-player aspects or "goodness".
I liked the multiplayer, but I really hated that it was part of the singleplayer too. Never combine the two. Thanks god for the Extended Cut DLC...

Kaidan is literally textbook definition of college bro.
I mean, have you seen him in Citadel?
Kaidan is literally textbook definition of college bro.

I've always liked Kaiden. But after The Citadel he became a total bro. Makin' the food, drinkin' the beers.
"Bacon, beef and beer. The food of my people."
What I hated most about Kaiden was how stone he was. When I first played Mass Effect, I ended up romancing him in ME1. I had no comparisons to make, he just felt like a normal, nice person. Then after ME2 I began to hate him for abandoning Shepard, and never did manage to forgive him fully. The hatred worsened when I considered it from a actual RP point of view, too. Dismissing and shunning your former "lover" like he did, when she's in such a horrible state after coming back from the dead after 2 years and being so fucked up/alone and back with the weight of the world on her shoulders.
You just don't fuck over somebody you were so close with like that. ME3 helped me forgive him, but I never could welcome him back in to the "inner circle" fully. The Citadel DLC helped me a long even further. He can't repair what he did, or change it, but hell at least he was trying, and being cool about it.
"Bacon, beef and beer. The food of my people."
Aforementioned "cool about it."
Didn't change the fact that I was quite happily rolling around with Garrus at that point, and would never be able to stop. Nothing like a space batman to fall back on when your Alenko spits in your face and smashers your heart in to small frozen pieces.

I'm pretty sure that was the idea. ME2 cut you off from all your previous possible romances to encourage a different romance.
I'm pretty sure that was the idea. ME2 cut you off from all your previous possible romances to encourage a different romance.
And then LotSB came along.
I'm pretty sure that was the idea. ME2 cut you off from all your previous possible romances to encourage a different romance.
Well, as far as I'm aware only Kaiden or Ashley are taken from you. All other romances are either still going or not developed yet. You're still able to play nice with Liara, and she doesn't refuse to join you because she distrusts you/thinks you're a traitor etc.
That and it doesn't seem that them encouraging you to cheat on your waifu/husbando was the basis. It felt more that either they didn't want them there and wanted to save Ashley/Kaiden for ME3 stuff or add DLC for them.
Also doesn't really justify him punching my Shepard in the ovaries and kicking her in the jugular while she's down crying. True husbandos/friends don't do that shit.
Kaidan doesn't distrust you, either. He distrusted Cerberus. You were at the time a part of Cerberus.
As much as he trusted you, he was Alliance. It would probably be seen as treason or abandonment to leave the Alliance for Cerberus, and he had more loyalty to the military than a single comrade, no matter how good of a comrade he/she is.
And look at him in ME3, he's a full-fledged Spectre because of his choice.
I think the VS becoming a spectre was just Udina trying to buy loyalty.

That's the thing, he's more loyal to the Alliance than he is Shepard. I mean, from a non-RP standpoint it really is just stress relief/emotional bonding and general girlfriend boyfriend forever stuff. They betrayed the Council to go to Illos and stop Saren, after all.
But the fact that Shepard isn't working for Cerberus, nor is part of Cerberus, is what gets me. Cerberus are helping Shepard stop the Collectors. The Alliance & Council aren't doing anything, and Kaiden just sits behind "You're CERBERUS" with his reasoning for not following you. Even Tali - who has every right (much moreso than Kaiden) to hate Cerberus joins you. She outright says that she's dishearted that you're working with Cerberus, but sees the logic in what you say.
Kaiden/Ashley on the other hand just back pedal, call you out, ignore your pleas and leave. Throwing away that sense of undying trust between comrades you had in ME1. Every other returning squadmate is at your back, but Kaiden/Ashley. Whatever way you look at it, he let you down. Picked the Alliance over you, and it's even more hurtful when he's your LI.
Like you said, Kaiden doesn't distrust you, he distrusts Cerberus. So, why he doesn't tag along with you despite what you say doesn't put him in a good light. It knocks him down the husbando tier substantially.
I think the VS becoming a spectre was just Udina trying to buy loyalty.
The fact that it's Udina making them a specter backs that up. he needs somebody who trusts him, even a little bit, to pull of the coup thing. Thankfully however, his spectre candidate trusts you more than him.

tl;dr humans are scum
After hearing about this game forever and some of my friends talking about it I went out and bought the trilogy. Any good advice for someone new to Mass Effect? Also is there any necessary dlc that I should buy?

Get Bring down the sky for me1, zaeed, kasumi, arrival, and lair of the shadow broker for me2, and for me3 citadel and leviathan along with the free dlc that me3 already provides. Omega if u have the cash to splurge for that as well.
Do every freakin side mission before you progress on "story" "priority" missions, fun part of importing saves is seeing some of your decisions showing up in later games even if it entirely pointless but it can be funny or sentimental to some.
After you beat it once, play it again and again and again and play broshep and femshep and different romances as well as different classes. It a hell of trilogy and demands multiple playthroughs for ultimate satisfaction.
Also Overlord for ME2 Thanks for pointing that out doh...
I always thought it was the SSV Loveboat?
If Normandy is the SSV Loveboat, then Sovereign was the HP Lovecraft.

And Overlord for ME2.
I gained a huge appreciation for Kaiden after Ashley didn't SHUT THE FUCK UP about Cerberus.
And Overlord for ME2.
Almost everyone seems to forget Overlord. Although, he'll need Firewalker to get Overlord, which is technically a free DLC.

I love the dlc but I never remember it for some odd reason as well. It ties in well with the particular plot in ME3 that happens.

I don't think I ever got Overlord; I had Firewalker from the Cerberus Network though, which had that hovercraft thing in it.

Liara literally tells you she doesn't have time for your romantic bullshit, and even apologizes for being a dick in ME3, if you invite her up to talk about the magic box.

You should get it. It's really good. Not quite LOTSB good, but it comes close.
Overlord and LotSB are pretty much the best DLC ever released for any game, ever; in terms of carrying thematics from source material to new stuff. (and no, I don't give a shit about Citadel's 15 tons of fancervix)
Every time I do the Grissom Academy mission, my hatred for Cerberus is renewed. Fucking smoke screens and turrets.
