how do you get snowballs? destroy snow? ive been doing it all day and nothing. does it only work on newly generated snow maps or something?

So I was triggering TNT with redstone and I noticed that after I picked up the remains, I had about 49 more redstone than I started with... And this was on ground level.

Once notch adds floodgates, I will be really happy. Snow blocks die by snow, so it could be used in pitfalls and traps (step on a pressure pad, water fills the room and the snow dissapears, you fall to the bottom).

I hollowed out a mountain to make a prison and began working on some security measures when I discovered there wasn't really a good way to make controllable lava flows, other than placing springs in hollowed out walls.

I am currently looking through a hole at 5 creepers.
