Haha, sand cave-ins are funny when you're above ground.. but accidentally update a chunk when you have a huge gravel ceiling and you are boned.
It happened to me once.. I survived, though. The gravel was only one block thick.

Of course he didn't let you have admin, imagine the amount of people that would just go "I'm only going to ban myself" then suddenly it's "HURR DURR I'MMA BAN WHOLE SERVER"
If you wanted to be IP banned he could have done it himself. If you didn't want to be there you could have just left. Why do you have to act like everyone should bend over and do what you want them to because your server acts like that?

It's called having fun. Everyone knows I'm not going to run around on an IP-banning spree of a server. I'm not an ass. I just like having fun. Apparently that's below the standards of the Minecraft players of Facepunch nowadays.
