Whats the other map previewer instead of /preview.jsp .
I want to be able to see the majority of the map I have explored from a birds eye view
Read the OP. There's even a huge banner in the OP that says "READ THE OP".
How did you miss it..? The program you're looking for is called "Cartograph". The link is in the OP.
I hand carved this out of the ground while I was mining. The entire thing was filled with stone and other minerals, no cave.

each of those skylights goes about ~60 blocks up to the surface, where it's got glass protecting me from monsters (though they would die if they jumped down it so I could take out the glass, it's primarily there so I don't fall in when I work up there).
Getting the grass down there was a bitch.

That large wooden door I made in the background has a ramp that goes all the way to the surface, and I put dirt blocks leading all the way up and covering the floor. I connected the dirt, and then over the course of several days (real time) grew the grass all the way down via using torches.

This monument represents my first group of diamonds found; in any save. In the areas around my retreat I've found around ~26. Haven't used them yet, not sure what I should use them for besides a pickaxe.

I must've gone through about 15 iron pickaxes digging the skylights

still working on cleaning up the torches
After making a fairly successful fortress in dwarf fortress, I now want to apply this to minecraft. I'm planning on making a fully sustained underground complex that need never see the light of day again. All I would need to start with is a large amount of logs, seeds and saplings, and a good location far away from magma pools, of course.
Getting sand could be an issue if I'm completely sealed in, so I should stock up on it beforehand.
Also just made this for fun.

Does anyone know if chests will be player-owned in SMP, meaning that only one person can open them, or if anyone will be able to open them?

It's not as bad here because you have no real needs, and there is just one person.
But man, that game is so complicated. I understand that you get used to it, but it just gave me a headache every time...

What I do want is a Dungeon Master of sorts that can fly, and that person can cause events such as creepers spawning (not within X amount of blocks from a player, and it makes a sound when spawned, natural disasters, and meteors.

My first death occured. I fell into lava and couldn't get up in time. Lost 2 diamond ore, a near mint condition diamond pickaxe, a lot of redstone, gold, iron, lots of coal and a lot of cobblestone I was gonna smelt into stone to build on my house.
:gonk:
I can't find any diamond. However i've found lots and lots of lava, And it's said to be mostly around that.
You think that you are safe while in a mine cart until this happens...

Can anyone help me with water? I can't seem to get it to fill up and go in the direction I want, it's a pain in the ass.
I am surprised about how much iron I have gotten on my level.
I got so much iron I made 2 full iron battlesuits along with 10 iron pickaxes
I made my first skin! see it here: http://www.minecraft.net/skin/skin.jsp?user=yannickgd
If you think its nice enough, I will upload it.
Thats a pretty simple skin im afraid.
I got so much iron I crafted it into blocks and made a 4x4x3 creeper raid shelter underground.

I just got 200 from one mining trip, I lost a shitload of diamond after that so i gave up on the save and used it all on a mine cart ride, as you see from a few posts up it didn't turn out well.
