Today was a very slow day, with me working out some of the kinks in Multiplayer and starting to work on reducing the network usage.
For the last couple of versions of Minecraft (or longer?), there’s been a bug where the player would get stuck in a weird stuttering mode sometimes.
While working on the multiplayer fixes, I ran into some code which looked suspicious (keeping track of the last zone a player was in), and it turned out to be totally broken in several places, such as when the player got teleported (entering/exiting a vehicle) or when loading and the player is right on the edge of a zone.
So I fixed that, and released client version 1.0.7. Let me know how it works in the comments, please. :-D

Going with the meat thing- so many guys complain about sheep and pigs in their base, but mostly in jest.
You really do want a huge, more or less level, secure, and lit area so that you get sheep and pig mobs spawning inside your base, because it means you'll never be shy of healing items and some form of armor.
Even better if you can throw in a tree farm, because it means you'll also always have wood handy, even at night. You can also use big gobs of trunk and flint to make temporary torches when mining if you haven't hit coal yet.

I hope that Notch adds some kind of dynamic sound thing so that if the sewer water is flowing fast and making the sounds, you could close the manholes and you wouldn't be able to hear it

why would you assume that spawns are broken because you can't cheat to see monsters any more

Hrm... I have dug deep underground and found a huuuge network of caves, plenty of mobs, I'll tell you that. I've made a small house down in it, and have been exploring the branches of caves that go off in multiple directions. I'm at level where lava springs are and have yet to come across diamond, which is odd, since usually I strike some whenever near lava.
