both the mouse and the A + D keys turn the boat around so if you're looking to your right while using the boat, you have to counter it by pressing A so it keeps going in a somewhat straight line.
I can't wait until notch fixes boats. Then I can have an epic adventure.
I just want boat races in SMP.

I hope notch does add bigger boats, or like a special boat construction workshop (with an 8X8 building space, for bigger boats)
Or some special block that makes all connected to it into a boat if not connected to the world (or the game probably crashes right away)

He said on his stream that he would have to implement move-able block groups in the near future to allow people to make boats and possibly other "big" means of transportation in the future.

I specifically constructed piers last night in case of this eventuality. HOPEFULLY, they will allow me to dock safely/with a minimum of damage, although some refinements may be in order...

Haha, good luck. Most of the time when you get out of a boat pushes it like 25 blocks ahead.

Only if you get out while moving, if I stop the boat I can leave sideways safely without moving it at all, I've parked about 20 boats so far while exploring without any problems.
Although I think boats shouldn't break when hitting sand.

Day/Night transitions seem to be improved.
As in they take longer, where it's in a state of half day/half night for a much longer time than normal.

If you run the downloadable client it will ask if you want to play offline if you don't have a connection.
I would have the standalone client running before you leave.
