In a way picking between Valve games is like picking between children.(i have a strong feeling that i ripped this phrase off of somewhere)But if someone were to twist my arm like in this thread, then i would say Portal, Half Life series starting from HL2, and TF2.

I highly appreciate the original HL games, but they have a very unfortunate habit of becoming plain and boring to me somewhere at the end of 1/3 of the way through in virtually all of them. Although there are some HL1 mods for which it was not the case, especially Afraid of Monsters: Director's Cut.

I think if we really ask ourselves this, we can come up with our "favorites" but as mentioned, Valve has no best game, they are all awesome. For example, A lightsaber is a lightsaber, you can have different hilts and colors, but it is still a lightsaber, this is what I compare the source games to.
