204? I expected more. Thousands even.
5 of 204, that's a 2.4% chance of getting it then?
I expected a lot more applications than that but well I guess that means a better chance for the rest of us. Have fun with those ducky and hezzy.

You cannot base this off statistics because its all about your application and post quality.
That must be hell reading through all of them. I'm starting to get worried about what'd happen if I actually did become a moderator, as small of a chance as it is.
You would moderate the forums and ban people. Its really not that hard, there is such a thing as the report system.
5 of 204, that's a 2.4% chance of getting it then?
contrary to the apparently popular belief in this thread, the moderators aren't picked out of a hat
5 of 204, that's a 2.4% chance of getting it then?
In fact if it were probability (which it isn't, by the way :p) you'd have a 1/204 chance of getting it (unless you applied with 5 different accounts D:).
Putting that into percentages; that's 0.49%. :p
But yeah, that's all useless information!
Dumb question approaching, but if you are made a mod of GGD, can you ban/close/do mod stuff, outside of GGD? Or is it just a one section job?
I presume it's the first, i.e. you are a mod but your jurisdiction only covers GGD; and everywhere else you are a just a green name who has to report like everyone else?
You would presumably become a games section moderator, and have mod capabilities in the games forum section and all subforums. Outside of that, you have no special powers aside from being green.
The only exceptions would be that you have moderator capabilities in the refugee camp so you can unban your own bans. Handy tip, though, don't unban ANYONE unless you banned them in the first place; ban extending/unbanning is to be determined by the mod who banned them in the first place, or one of the super mods because they're cool like that.
Remember you can still log in to check your replies until the final stage.

not chance, rather only 2.4% of the applicants will be chosen.
I'm willing to bet that about 125 of the applicants are just "why the hell not I might have a chance" applications, 65 of them are idiots/trolls/douche-rockets, and the other 14 are actually members who think they'll be a good moderator and make a difference in the community.

Understatement of the week.

you'd be surprised how little gets reported. Have to really make a push to get that shit done more often, there's about 10 posts at any given time on the whole forum that have been reported, and I KNOW there's a metric shit-ton more trolling.
Oh god I accidentally referred to the Games section as the GGD. :ohdear:

Judging by all the "why not, I might have a change" replies I would have to agree 100%

I'm surprised that the report system isn't used as you say. I guess whoever gets elected will have to be top notch.

We'll I probably thing it'd have to do a bit with the fact most people don't really care that much. That's just an idea I have, I am in no way saying that's so however, but yeah, you get my point.

Exactly what I was worried about.
Oh well, it's just a larger scale of the other forums I've moderated on.
Hopefully.

Wow. That's interesting to know. I always wondered why posts that obviously broke some rules didn't get banned even though I reported them. That explains it since it only shows up after two reports on the same post. But why doesn't it show single reports when there are so few any way?
I'm surprised that the report system isn't used as you say. I guess whoever gets elected will have to be top notch.
Yeah, it takes a lot of digging to keep on top of stuff. I personally have a small group of forum-ninjas who post as normal but let me know if something's going down in their respective sections though, since I've recently come into tough times and don't have as much time to dig around right now.
The reports system covers the entire forum, so even with the 11 current reports, none are from my section. Looks like there's two games forum posts, though, I've noticed a few of them recently. Good thing we're gettin' more mods v:v:v
Well the Games section isn't that big in my opinion and if you regularly browse/post in it you should easily know where the trolls and shit posters go.

A post does not show up in reports unless two or more people report it, to avoid report spam or attacks.
It's probably because some people don't know about the report button as it is hardly ever mentioned and others just think that others will report the post for them.
Or because there isn't an appropriate report category for most rules. Dragon told me to just report everything as spam that doesn't fit in any of the categories, but I suppose most users don't know that and rather don't report than use the wrong section.
A post does not show up in reports unless two or more people report it, to avoid report spam or attacks.
I know. You didn't read the second half of my post. :v:
I don't see why people bother to troll a section about video games in the first place.
I don't see why people bother to troll a section about video games in the first place.
There was a troll last night doing the very thing. He was just insulting valve and saying that no one should like their games, etc etc.
It must be a rare thing, I guess.
I don't see why people bother to troll a section about video games in the first place.
it isn't necessarily the section, more the specific games. Think like people who hate WoW because it's WoW and go to the threads about WoW and be idiots to the people who like WoW. Likewise, WoW tards who attack pretty much any other MMO saying it's a clone/rip-off/korean-grinder-#9002-piece-of-shit because it isn't WoW.
I'm neutral on the subject, used to play, now I don't, never got 'hardcore' into it, don't discuss the topic because that'd be derailing which is a bannable offense :eng101:
/even more tension

I must be the few that use report then, because I report people who are flaming/trolling. Most probably doesn't go through unless someone else reports it. Also I applied just for the hell of it. I am not so sure I would be a good Moderator, but I wanted to see what my chances were as I have the worst of luck. [sp] This is not a suck-up story to get picked, it's the truth. [/sp]
