• Are More Girls Playing Games?

I have met a few more girls playing games than I would have expected. While some of them are very "Give me special treatment because I'm a girl", most of them have been normal, and just want to chat and play games. However, it does seem to be that some guys act weird around girls when they are in a chat or in a game with them. For example, there is this Steam group that I'm part of that has a popular chat, and one of the regulars is a girl (one of the ones who just wants to chat and play games). It seems to be that whenever she is mentioned, whether she is in the chat or not, something gets started. Some of what is said is done as a joke to others, but some of the other stuff is taken quite seriously at times. It seems that some of them have a sort of obsession with her, and talk about her all the time. This isn't helped by the history that she has between some of the other regulars and ex-regulars. But anyway, most of the time it seems that girl gamers just want to be treated the same as us guys. Sure, them being female (if it is known) has to be taken into account for some jokes, but most of the time the conversations with them are no different. They can be just a good a friend as a guy gamer can be.
I have a friend who ended up going out and moving into a place with some chick he met on like BF2 or something. She lived like an hour and a half away so it wasn't a big deal to me. It's so fucking pathetic but adorable at the same time.

I am coming across them much more often in the past few months  A lot of the time, they seem to be the attractive yet friendly and not full of themselves types too which is a huge bonus :v: This is on gmod, which is the last place I would expect... It is annoying that the guys give them SO MUCH attention though to the point where you feel sorry for them, its like fucking hell just chill out and let them play.
My sister loves to play Burnout and Fable.
Maybe, though I hate it when they go all ''im a girl oooh respect me n listen to me cause im a girl gamerrr oooh if u let me kill u ill give u nudiessss''
While I know they're out there, I don't see 'em much. It is still a damn rare occurrence to find a girl gamer while playing online.
I met like 4 of them once in garry'smod. They were actually really nice persons and really good builders, it just was kinda creepy because I was the only guy on the server and they all started flirting with me :v:

I'm sure I've seen a few in TF2 UKCS. But why does it matter anyway?

Not once i've i ran into a normal girl when playing a game, only ever the ones who shout to someone on the other team once they killed them about how they got killed by a girl when they're on the enemy team and can't hear her. My Sister does like GTA IV and used to like Red Dead Redemption before she did everything in it. (Highest Rank Online, 100% Singleplayer, All Gold Weapons) [editline]23rd April 2011[/editline] It's like she's a nerd to games i don't like.
Currently it's fat gamers with acme (Gamer guys) and skinny girls with long hair and tight jeans. We don't need no combo of both. I don't wanna feel like living in America when walking down the street because all girls started gaming.
Acme?

I personally find myself not trusting all these "gaming girl" statistics. What exactly do they consider "gaming"? Is it simply using a gaming console? Is it simply playing something with interactive input? If so, then these statistics count games such as The Sims and the Wii fit. I mean, I've seen it a few times that "the Wii is the most popular gaming console out there," but it's not really a gaming console. Most people buy it for the casual party games, not actual "gaming" by what I consider a gaming definition. To me, this is a "video game." And this is not. So I always find myself asking what all is being included in this statistic. Not to sound like a cranky old male-gaming elitist prick. Don't read into this post that way, because it's not intended. I fully understand that there are people who like these sorts of games, and I appreciate and enjoy them, too. I am just saying I feel there should be a discerning difference between these "casual" games and other games such as Dead Space 2, the Half-Life series, Left 4 Dead, etc. I'm just expressing my skepticism to these statistics and wondering what the actual balance between "casual" gaming girls and the others is. I wouldn't be surprised if the ratios were higher in the casual's favor.

I won't deny that. Maybe I worded it poorly. Let me try again, using the terms you gave me (thank you, by the way). I find myself skeptical of these statistics. I find myself wondering if they are including games designed for all audiences, as opposed to if they're including only games whose audience is the stereotypical "gamer" audience (male, 17-24 I suppose is a good arbitrary range). Games like Half-Life 2, Dead Space, Call of Duty. There are some pretty large schisms between the "stereotypical gamer" audience, the "kids 12 and under" audience, the "fun for the whole family" audience, and whatever audience you'd throw simulation games like The Sims and puzzle games under. Does that work better?
Out of my ~130 steam friends, about 3 are women, I think.
I met like 4 of them once in garry'smod. They were actually really nice persons and really good builders, it just was kinda creepy because I was the only guy on the server and they all started flirting with me :v:
Then you woke up, right?
Out of my ~15 xbl friends, one is a women. She's also on my steam friends :v:
Two of the hottest girls I'm friends with both play games and cosplay, but that may be the fact I think nerdy girls are hot and that I met them over the internet.
Girls have always played games. The smart ones just tend to not make themselves stand out any more than the next person.
Yeah,i've recently noticed more female players(tf2,l4d mainly)
Girls have always played games.
Girls have always played games. The smart ones just tend to not make themselves stand out any more than the next person.
I just checked, you are the only women on both my steam friends and xbl.
I just checked, you are the only women on both my steam friends and xbl.
Yeah I figured. Probably because I'm the only one who puts up with you.
Haven't really noticed as I tend to play singleplayer games. But I don't really feel it's that big of a deal anyway.
About a third of the people I actually talk to on steam are girls, and Luafox, who wishes he was one.
There are several gamer girls at my school who are into the same things as me (Homestuck, TWEWY, Valve). Otherwise, all the girls I see playing games are 8-10 years old and playing cooking mama on their pink DS.
Yeah I figured. Probably because I'm the only one who puts up with you.
That's harsh. I don't even talk to you that much :saddowns: And no, it isn't because I'm a dick, it's because I just don't meet that many. [editline]time[/editline] As in, I don't talk to you at all.

I don't have it though. Wish I did. It's fun to play on road trips or on a plane.
