Got my newbgrind MS-1 to cap the enemy base. Finally, my first achievement. Now I can feel less of a failure.
Also my first TK. TKing in this game would make great trolling. I will never shoot with T-28 on the move, though.

Where are you guys located that you are able to get <100 ping? Mine hovers around 280ms.

You'll have to be in East Europe for that to happen. Beside, ping doesn't matter much, anyway.

Well, obviously you have to retrain them by clicking their portraits. That will take off some percentage of skill, but lays off the overall negative handicap.

The servers are hosted in Germany, so if you're not in Europe you won't get a good ping. I live in the east coast of the US and I get 200.
I live in the west coast and get about 220, damn servers, I hope they get some American ones soon.
The SU-26 isn't doing anything to these tanks in normal battles.

Nope. I already have a cannon big enough being able to take em out and the SPGs I have seen usually never even shoot at them, and only shoot lighter tanks because they would "waste" ammo if they shot those big things.
Also yesterday my team got fucked up by 3 SPGs when one light tank suicide rushed into our base and spotted us for them.

Australia ~500 ping+ but it's a fun game.

A lot of the Russian tanks seem... bad, a lot of them like the BT-7/A20 are fast but have paper armor and a weak gun.

Indeed, but damn those SPGs and Tank Destroyers are heavy damage, my SU-85B, a tank destroyer has amazing damage and armor.
