Lightning struck the side of my wooden house and the rain didn't put it out, the fire didn't spread though it just stayed there the whole time I frantically ran to destroy the block.

i have seen rain like 3 times (it doesnt rain on ANY sand. not just desert biomes. so beaches dont get rain.). but no snow. probably because i dont hang out in snow biomes.
i hope someone makes a mod that disables enemy mobs spawning during rain, and makes rain and snow a lot more common.

No, it's random. It just takes a really long time.
I understand that many people want to see rain, but it might be best that it isn't often. It's new now, but in three months it will be a nuisance. I've had it ran about 5 times, and I always fear my cabin will catch fire.

I have my house covered in cobblestone anyways, so I can make the interior walls whatever I want, and embed bookshelfs in them.

you realize the odds of that happening? plus, why would you have a wooden house, anyone who actually wants to play the game efficiently knows having a wooden house is stupid and costly, you only make wooden houses once you are rich.

Not really. Wood is the easiest resource to get in the game during Tier 1, it's far easier to get 4 stacks of wood with a stone axe than 4 stacks of stone with a stone pickaxe at that stage. There's really nothing stopping someone from building a wooden house unless they have a distinct fetish for fireplaces.

I build with it, burn it in my furnaces, spread it on toast, you name it
Just saw rain, although there was very little sound and no thunder...
Completed my cabin though.
