Happens to me all the time, though not always. It only seems to happen when I'm in a real game and not on the menu. Either way, it's pretty annoying and made me die in TF2. :frown:

I get this too.
They've made the border around the chat window huge again.
And middle click doesn't close them,
but the idea of tabbed chat windows is nice
So no more chat window clusterfuck ? yay !

Well he's banned now, but for everyone else's benefit:
The default is still to open multiple windows. You have to drag them into another to make them tabs.
I couldn't keep the beta though, the focus stealing (minimizing to you folks) would drive me nuts.

Why can't they make this clearer or just auto-opt in? I'm tired of hunting for betas, or when I find one, it's nothing spectacular(like the 20 "beta" Steam clients they did that changed nothing).

You can also set notification options per friend. If you want, you can silence only a person, or give them beep, notify on everything.

I'm pretty sure it's been like that for a while. I have it set up for certain friends that I talk to often.

I think it's a bug, that's the colour that the taskbar icons take when they notify you of something. (at least when you've selected the window it looks like that, otherwise it looks like yellow crap)
I hope it's optional because I rarely have too many active chat windows.

Its like any browser with tabs. you can have multiple windows open without using tabs, or you can have multiple windows open each with their own tabs, or you can just have one window with them all in. You decide

Very useful but the drag and drop would be a nuisance in game. I hope some day it will automatically go into a tab for you whenever they message you.
Eh, I don't really do chat much so this isn't too big a deal. But I guess it would come in handy at some point or another.
Slightly off-topic.. How do I keep my Steam Friends from turning on when I join multiplayer games? I usually keep it off and it's getting annoying having it constantly come back on every time I try to play multiplayer.
I don't like the new beta UI, it minimizes my game every time someone sends me a message
Did they ever give out rewards for opting in beta?
