Lag? What are you talking about, I have no lag at all when playing eve.
It must be you

SWG was released BEFORE WoW and had Player-Owned Houses, Buildings, Cantinas, and even whole towns. They had the technology, they just chose not to make it as sandbox-ish. I compare the scenery of WoW to that of SWG, SWG is quite bare. Why? Because they needed room for player-created content such as mining thumpers and town halls.

So the point is Developers want to impress with looks rather than content IMHO.
Imagine having a huge fight in space and your ship gets damaged badly. You crash-land on a random planet. And look for supplies to repair your ship, to feed your crew daily and more. That would be great.

That's complete bullshit. Eve is the laggiest mmo I've ever played. It just isn't really obvious until you go somewhere with lots of ships.
I never lagged on Eve either.
He proposes to fix the game world being the same by letting it change then be the same after a little time passes. Anyone else catch that?
How about instead if say, the Empire gets almost entirely wiped out, there's an uprising in a different system and there's more Imperial forces there. I mean, yeah, he was just giving an example of how to fix it, and I know the point of that post was to point out problems, but I think that was a dumb example
The problem I have with The Old Republic is that it isn't Star Wars Galaxies but Bioware should do their own thing because it will be nothing short of amazing, hopefully LucasArts will be like "fuck Sony Online" and give the SWGEmu full rights to the Star Wars license and all of the code.

And when you crash, the physics are calculated to every last grain of sand, each of which is ray traced. And you have to make sure you manage food properly because your crew has perfectly simulated bodies, and some may become malnourished and other have allergies. Every last bolt most also be placed correctly because the game calculates for all the parts of the ship and the forces working on them. And then you get a blow job from Scarlet Johanson.
My only issue with his suggestion was that captured territories basically turn over after a certain amount of time. Let it be indefinite, if it's captured and the enemy can't take it back well that sucks. Don't reset it every week though, because then it loses all value.

Couldn't this be posted in the MMO section?
The person in the OP is a hypocrite. He complains about players not having any impact on a game, where things just reset the next day and so forth, yet that's exactly what he suggested for a solution. Granted, battling for a planet would potentially be a new experience each time, but in the end its still going to reset and the work will be for nothing. There is no impact, which he said was an issue with WoW.
Making the planet without a reset would change the game completely in one faction's favor the entire game, thus making it not fun for anyone outside of it. Its a lose lose situation in my opinion. WoW method means less impact, and the other method means a lack of fairness. I don't think the person in the OP understands that MMOs must exist constantly for everyone. Change the game for a select few people at the top and the rest are left with absolutely no feeling of immersion. You can't 'win' an MMO.
This guy should play some Wurm. It may not be perfect, but it sounds a heck of a lot like what he's looking for. Entirely player created cities and governments and all that stuff. Every action having an impact on the world and not just doing the same thing every other guy is doing.
Yeah, it can be an incredibly tedious, slow game, but it's still an MMORPG. That's what you're paying for. Except, in Wurm the grinding goes beyond just killing things.
I think what he said about EVE was right, but I think the sheer harshness of the game is what makes it fun. Killing people is much funner when you know its really doing something and their not just gonna respawn.

funner
I think it's funner too.
He's definitely got a point. I especially like his improvements #3 and #4. That is something I would love to see in most MMORPGs. I want to be able to influence the game-world and I want my character to have a history of some kind.
Also this
It sounds like he's trying to take out the whole idea of the MMORPG
I really like the trinity system, it makes teamwork essential. He's also complaining about how it's not realistic, and I say "fuck you" to that.
I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. Who the fuck says MMORPGs should be always built around the trinity? It's just that most or all the MMORPGs you played are built like this, hence your head being deep inside your ass.

His idea of taking over planets and resetting after a total victory makes me think of Chromehounds.
