Star Wars knights of the old republic is 2004 I think, but its still a great game. Its made by the same people as mass effect and you can tell. Some people might disagree with me, but I actually enjoyed SW:KotOR more than mass effect or mass effect 2. SW:KotOR 2 is kinda meh, I didnt really like it nearly as much.
Wow I've never heard of KOTOR before thanks for suggesting this! [editline]01:05PM[/editline]
Who cares of how it looks? You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. Try the demo, at least...
I do. And it looks like a terrible game.
Wow I've never heard of KOTOR before thanks for suggesting this!
What the hell is wrong with you? A few posts back, someone suggested the same game and you said, "Couldn't get past the first parts. People say it gets better but I'm impatient." http://www.facepunch.com/showpost.php?p=23550464&postcount=62
I just read what you wrote about not being patient, but I liked the first part, and even so, it is well worth it, like really really worth it, just to play past is. The rest of the game is so much fun. It has quite a few amazing moments, like pretty much all of Manaan, and especially when you go to the under water city and go outside in the EVA suit with the giant fish, I'll never forget that part, its just an amazing game.
I don't really get this thread. People suggesting the same stuff over and over, OP stating everything is shit and he already tried every other game. Doesn't like all the classy RPGs. OP, what do you like about RPGs anyway, doesn't seem to be your genre
People suggesting the same stuff over and over is because reading is apparently for retards. I'm stating everything is shit because it is. If it's a good game like Dragon Age, ME2, etc. etc. I'm not going to say it sucks. I prefer to be blunt and instead of letting someone down "eh it wasn't really my style etc." I'll just say it sucks. Sorry if that offends anyone. Define classy rpgs. If you mean classIC, then nope, just because something was old and was awesome when you played it in your youth doesn't mean it is able to compete with current games. And not even bringing up the graphics, there are a lot of gameplay elements that have only recently been implemented which depend on newer engines etc. What do I like about RPGs? A lot of things. They usually have a better story than other genres. Better character development, more character impact on the story, not as linear. I like inventory systems and equipment changing. I like class changing or race changing for replayability. I like feeling like a badass when I kill 2000000 darkspawn in DA:O. I hate turn-based combat. I hate pausing combat. I hate point and click movement systems. My RPG tastes aren't bogged down to fantasy rpg, that's just what I was looking for currently. I loved Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, Fallout 3, Borderlands (genre issues, who cares). [editline]01:19PM[/editline]
What the hell is wrong with you? I used sarcasm to make light on the fact that it's been posted 10000 times in this thread and I said I didn't like it each time.
Deux Ex, no offense OP, but there's a difference between being blunt and acting like an asshole.
Deux Ex, no offense OP, but there's a difference between being blunt and acting like an asshole.
Then I guess I'm an asshole. Everyone should have played Deus Ex already.
I don't think anyone mentioned Alpha Protocol yet. I really enjoyed it. Gameplay was a bit wonky at first, but if you spend some time with it you'll get used to it. You can impact the story pretty good as well.

And not even bringing up the graphics, there are a lot of gameplay elements that have only recently been implemented which depend on newer engines etc.
That's the problem, there aren't as many good RPGs nowadays as there were earlier. The good RPGs are Baldurs Gate 2 (never played 1), Arx Fatalis, Neverwinter Nights + Addons, NWN 2 was good, too, Morrowind and the Fallout games. A very good RPG is Arcanum. I played several new RPGs but most of them aren't that good compared to the oldschool RPGs. I'm older than many other facepunch users but those RPGs aren't really good for young people so nothing I like only because of nostalgia. Todays RPGs look good and sometimes the story is nice, too, but most of them are rather boring or buggy because they're bloated like shit.
Good job OP, out of every suggestion there is ONE you haven't played or think is shit. All and all, I'd say this was a pretty pointless thread.
Well the OP doesn't seem to be able to get it straight but whatever, I'll still not be an ass and help. It isn't super recent, but it's deep, and loads of fun. Arcanum: of Steamworks and magic Obscura. Play it now!
I know you said that you can't get past the beginning of kotor, but just try, or download some mods for the games you already have
Dragon Quest 9

All and all, I'd say this was a pretty pointless thread.
Well taking into account each suggestion was suggested 3 times and many suggestions were things I already mentioned in the OP because no one read it, or that they were what I specifically asked to not be suggested, there weren't that many good suggestions. And yes, there are not many I haven't played, because I tried many games before asking. I searched for quite a bunch of games and couldn't find any, that's why I made the thread. [editline]08:42PM[/editline]
Something tells me he's just trying to stir up trouble. He comes here looking for a good RPG, so we give him a few good RPG titles, and... THIS SUCKS IT LOOKS TERRIBLE I PLAYED THIS IT SERIOUSLY SUCK THE GRAPHICS ARE SHIT IDOSH Let's make this post the last. This thread needs to die.
Most of you gave me no good suggestions. I asked for recent, 5 years at most, and I was flooded with games from the 90s and 2003 back. I said no point and click, but I get Diablo 2 suggested 4 times. I said no turn-based combat, and KOTOR gets suggested 4 times. The fact that no one seems to regard the OP combined with the fact that most rpgs suck nowadays (and if they don't I've most likely played them) makes it seem like I'm not accepting anything, but I've accepted that there is really nothing new that is good. I ended up searching myself some more, and found Legacy of Kain, which I will try. Out of this thread the only one I'm acting on is Gothic 3, Venetica, and demoing Dimensity. They don't fit with what I asked for, but I think there is no good, multi-class, not turn-based/p&c/paused combat rpgs that are recent.
Borderlands? :v:
This. Borderlands is great, I enjoy it.
It does play like Diablo I didn't think of that. How about venturing into rouguelikes? They offer a ton of variety and replay value. Try a simpler one, I'd recommend my favorite Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.
The game the OP is looking for doesn't exist. Because the OP is an idiot.
OP is an idiot.
You want a decent RPG? Here you go.
You should try it. On topic: I have to agree that most of the newer RPGs aren't as good as the older ones. I know it has been suggested, but you should take a look at System Shock 2. The game Bioshock took a lot of game play elements from System Shock and updated them with a new story, but I always found System Shock to be a much better game. Who knows, maybe you'll like it.
OP needs to get off his high horse and realize that his opinion =/= fact. Saying "It sucks" or that a certain game "Really isn't fun" as though it is completely 100% true, and that everyone should realize that you are right and they are wrong, is stupid. He also needs to be more considerate to those who are trying to help him, when they could have ALL said "google iz ur friend lol", sure people repeat things or don't read the OP fully, or don't read every post, it happens. There is no reason to be pissy about it. Thirdly, he needs to be less negative about everything. If you go into a game expecting it to be terrible or just think 'well if it is terrible I'll just play x over again', it will most likely be harder to enjoy. Lastly, looking at a game and saying that it 'looks' horrible, isn't enough. If you really want to find another game, you should be willing to give it a try through a demo or by reading reviews, or asking the community that plays it. Slightly more on topic: Instead of looking for an RPG why not try something else? You might find a genre, or specific game you might like. It seems that there aren't many RPGs that you haven't played, or established that you think sucks.
Ladies and gentlemen, what we have witnessed is the first post of a 10er
Ladies and gentlemen, what we have witnessed is the first post of a 10er
As first posts go, Crunchytoast's was pretty good, in my opinion.
The game the OP is looking for doesn't exist. Because the OP is an idiot.
I like a lot of RPGs, the thing is, I've come to the conclusion I've played all the good ones. I'll just have to wait for Dragon Age 2. Not to put down anyone who likes that genre of game/type of game, but it is not the kind of game I'm looking for so I'm going to say that it sucks. Sorry. I realize that you don't have to read every post. Reading the OP at least sounds like a good idea. Reading the title and replying makes you look dumb. I don't play games expecting them to be terrible. I don't even start a game if it looks like it's going to be terrible, because then it probably will be. I hope that the games I start are going to be good, but sometimes they aren't so I'm going to say that the game was awful. You can tell a lot about a game by gameplay videos and screenshots, which is what I watched every time a game was suggested that I didn't know. I didn't just look at one picture and say "oh this sucks", but I'm not going to waste my time downloading a demo if I know I'm not going to enjoy it. The whole reason I was looking for an RPG was that I'm going on vacation with my PC but there won't be any internet so I'd have to have a long singleplayer game. Usually RPGs run longer and are singleplayer, so it's win win. I play many other genres of games, and enjoy them, I was just in an RPG mood at the time of that post.
OP, I'm sorry, but what you're looking for isn't an RPG. Apparently, what you want is a game that has a deep story, nice character progression, and has great graphics. You ALSO appear to have the attention span of a 10 year old. Most, if not all of the games we've mentioned are, both by professional review and general consensus, are great RPG's. I'm sorry if you don't think so.

I enjoy a good game. There are just some gameplay aspects like point and click movement and turn-based combat which I don't like. If that makes me have a small attention span, so be it.
Hey! Mr.-I'm-Don't-Appreciate-Any-Good-RPG's! We don't take kindly to your types 'round here, so why don't you geeet out!
Gothic series, Arx Fatalis, Neverwinter Nights, and System Shock 2 (not so much an RPG, but it has RPG elements). I know these aren't as recent as ya said in the OP, but they're still great games.
Hey! Mr.-I'm-Don't-Appreciate-Any-Good-RPG's! We don't take kindly to your types 'round here, so why don't you geeet out!
I'm don't want to. NWN doesn't seem like that much fun but NWN2 might be fun with mods and coop friends. I'll play Arx Fatalis. I'm currently installing Gothic 3.
