Episode 3 should come with an updated Deathmatch.
Shame, because the little twits in multi-player games make me want to, do something else.
Hmm...I'm a bit worried to be honest. I don't want to be playing Episode 3 with some random douchebag.
If they add hats to Ep. 3, I swear to God......
Headcrab hat, now only $9,99! Plus, you get the AR3 for free!
just have ep3 co-op no story explanations just co-op just plop another gordon freeman in there duke nukem style.
"Non-isolated SP game" is different from "no SP at all."
I really feel the need to quote this post, and say that the title of the thread is crazy misleading. "Done with singleplayer" implies that we simply don't have singleplayer, that they're taking something away from us. "Done with JUST ISOLATED SINGLEPLAYER" implies that we still get singleplayer, but they add multiplayer as well, so we're just getting more product. Maybe I'm just being a fanboy, I love Valve, so it's certainly possible. I guess we'll see when they come out with their next game using this "non-isolated" approach, I love Valve but only because their games are good. As soon as that's done I'll have to throw away my fanboy badge.
If they add hats to Ep. 3, I swear to God......
Don't worry, they wouldn't do it to such a great game. and if they did it would be in art style.
If HL3 had a separate co-op features, I wouldn't mind a bit of customization myself.
If HL3 had a separate co-op features, I wouldn't mind a bit of customization myself.
i would love if they had brought back the old HEV suit as an equippable item..
This isn't really anything new-- half-life 1 had multiplayer, half-life 2 has multiplayer, so why shouldn't half-life 3 have multiplayer?
A mod should change the title since it is kinda misleading.
They're not getting rid of single player. They're just adding in more multi player. Do any of you read the OP? Seriously though, I think Valve made a good call here. Co-Op in Portal 2 was an absolutely magical experience, and it could definitely work in Half-Life so long as it doesn't break the immersion.
WHY? WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS? ARGH c
I hope this isn't so they can add a Store to every future game. :gonk:
Combine with hats D:
Unless I'm imagining things, the article said that Portal 2 is their last game with a single-player only story. Which, if taken literally, means that future games will only have either co-op or traditional multiplayer (or both). In which case, Valve has been ruined for me.
I would hate for the next HL game to be co-op only. Portal 2 co-op is ruined for me because I can't pay attention to any dialogue or think out the solution on my own since everyone I play with knows the solution and rushes me along with the pointer thing.
Find someone on your own skill level and who hasn't played the game already. I found someone the day before launch and we agreed to do the coop for the first time together, and it was great fun. (Portal 2, not sex.)

I'm fine with their games having more multiplayer, but only if the singleplayer doesn't start suffering because of it.
They probably mean that all their games will now have the option to play co-op in the SP campaign.

Are you telling me if valve made a really shitty singleplayer game (I know they cant but hypothetically) that wouldn't ruin it for you? Well let me rephrase that. Just becuase they "may" have multiplayer in thier games now does that mean that all of a sudden Valve will stop being awesome? NO. They will still have wonderful singleplayer campaigns.
So this will be great if singleplayer is still an option. I want Gordon's story to stay singleplayer for EP3. Then I would love a co-op campaign as rebels or something. Maybe follow the story from another city or something. That would be awesome.
Welp, I'm fucked since my connection is usually too weak for MP.

If they stop single-player games, will EP3 be a co-op game where you play as Gordon Freeman, Barney, Dr. Kleiner, Alex, and a secret skin you get when you finish the game, G-Man?

Well, thank you for the big confirmation, big guy! (chortles behind screen) Although GoLuffy, if your serious, what you asked does kind of exist already in certain HL2 DM CoOp servers. Kind of, that you can play as Alyx, Barney, or Kleiner and your player model makes some of their noises, but not conversation. Its just doing it this way is not as cannon to the HL2 story.
I don't think he works at Valve. And if he is correct, then they will most likely provide a very updated deathmatch with episode 3

It’s an assertion he told me he heard directly from Valve founder Gabe Newell and the company’s project manager Erik Johnson.
Still it may still not happen, hopefully.
“Portal 2 will probably be Valve’s last game with an isolated single-player experience,” Keighley wrote in Final Hours, “What this all means is something Newell is still trying to figure out.”
I don't know, maybe my reading comprehension is shot but this DOES sound like they're cutting out single player completely.
Why make games with singleplayer AND multiplayer built into it when you can just sell them separately for more money, like Half-Life Source?
When I first played L4D and L4D2, I played the campaigns on my own, I didn't like having people rush me or ruin the experience online.
