I remember when people bought games purely for the single player experience. Nowadays I see people, even on this forum, saying, "The SP looks good, but I don't know, the MP was pretty bad so I probably won't buy it."

We're adults. When did that happen? And how do we make it stop?
You used to be excited when your father took you to the games store and you'd be in heaven when seeing all those games, nowadays all you see on the shelf is shit and you mostly buy your stuff from steam or other download services. [editline]04:22PM[/editline] Ignorance is bliss, no?
I remember my father told me he'd get me a game if I cleaned my room, a gameboy color game! We went to Toys 'R Us and I got Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and jeez, that was one of the best games I ever had. I remember opening it up and going through it while we were watching tv that night. It started out with you getting the letter to join Hogwarts, and then you got to go to Diagon Alley and then on to the train and so on. That was such a fun game because you could explore the whole castle, and find random items. Not exactly the same as buying a game randomly, but still reminded me of getting it. [editline]09:56AM[/editline]
I agree but also a lot of the older games were more original and better, and video games are more commercialised now like modern warfare 2, so instead of just going into a video game store and buying some good ones you actually go to a video game store, find someones shat Horsez and Bratz and low-quality games all over the shop and you've gotta sift through the pile of shit to find a diamond. I mean yeah, we're more discriminating but you can't deny that a lot of good game industries have gone down the shitter in terms of quality. I miss Apogee games. Also has anyone else in Australia noticed that EB Games seems to be having a permanent one-time only sale that's lasted around 5 months now?
Oh god I loved Apogee games. I have Hocus Pocus on cd, and Halloween Harry (Alien Carnage) downloaded. Both amazing dos games, I loved them.
I wish I wasn't so nerdy and obsessed with military stuff. It has ruined almost all shooters for me. Yeah I'm sad. I got pissed off when I played the MoH beta because the M16 fired full auto.
i was a naive gamer and was just like you. but that made me end up with the heresy piece of shit known as tom clancey's end war. i hate it
I can relate to the OP, as many here seem to. I really miss the feeling. However, recently Minecraft has been giving me the sense of exploring and discovering something new, and always being amazed by it. I wonder how long it will last. Ah well, gotta enjoy it while it does!
I miss those days. [editline]03:05PM[/editline]
I enjoyed games a lot more when I didn't know how they worked, when it was a character and not a model with voice actor.
Oh fuck this. I can't fully enjoy Source games like I should without realizing it's an Alyx NPC, and wow her voice acting's nice with nice animations. Back then it would've been a girl with a nice voice. :sigh:
Yeah the same thing happened for me with cartoons, everything seems to lose life an personality once you realize everything is a cardboard cutout designed for your entertainment.
I miss management games as well, like RCT and The Movies. There used to be dozens of variants.
Oh, that reminds me of SimHospital. Found a random copy lying around my workplace. It looked like it had been lying there for quite some time.
I still play Rollercoaster Tycoon once in a while, and it's still fun.
I am usually still "naïve" towards games if their trailers and screenshots are impressive.
We kinda brought this on ourselves, dissecting games even before they are even released, never buying anything with a less-than-great review, not buying a game just becase you haven't heard about it before etc. You can still buy a game based on the cover and discover it on your own, you just choose not to.
