I've been playing for four hours just trying to build up some scale on glass producing etc. I play on easiest difficulty i just don't like the underground because slimes still spawn =3
I Built a lake and spreaded the crops inside it, covered it in glass, like 60x60 and I have my little shack next to it with 3 furnaces and a toolbench. Right next door is the mine. All the way to the bottom, hit everything but diamond so far and found a nest of slimes which i raped with the pickaxe and by flooding them. I wish this land had a natural waterfall and i'd build my base inside it. So soothing. Glass everywhere and water cascading around over the top of my base. Bring some lava up and have a waterfall spill over feeding my crops. Man I'm gonna have to start a new world and see if i can make this come true.

Basically, Minecraft is a game where you explore and make cool shit like bases and stuff. In Creative mode, you just build shit without safety concerns and stuff, but in the Alpha Survival mode, there's crafting and resources, and everything is a lot more satisfying. Plus it's got extra stuff in it, and overall it's just a lot of fun.

Hoping it convinces another person, here is my tried-and-true sales pitch:
Creative is creative, and it's free, so it doesn't really need an explanation. However, the fun stuff...
/game/ is the newest and FINAL paid-only in development version. It has infinite terrain (don't let anyone tell you otherwise), animals, enemies, a day/night cycle, and damn near infinite replayability. You start out punching trees down with your bare hands, and craft blocks into tools like swords and axes and other things like chests and furnaces, where you can smelt ores into usable materials. You can kill pigs for their pork, hit sheep to make their wool fly off, and apparently get milk from cows soon enough.
At night, however, the enemies come out, and their only purpose is to completely wreck your shit and murder you. Any enemy that finds you will make a beeline for you and you'll have to either run away or kill it. There are a handful of different enemies, like the exploding creeper or the fierce spider.
Basically, you mine and craft, just like the game says. It's a ton of fun and I recommend it to anyone, really. You don't need a superior computer to run it, and it's got really polished graphics.
That's my official "sales pitch" but you won't really know for sure unless you try it out. Even if you don't like it, you'll be able to do all the stuff I just described and more with friends when Survival Multiplayer comes out. The price will double when that happens so I assure you it's a better deal to get it now. I can definitely say you won't regret it.

MsPaint works just as well (hold shift when using the oval tool for perfect circles) if you need larger than 45 block circles.

It's rare, I've found one diamond in my entire Minecraft career, and I died shortly after I found it.
So, since my shitty laptop is sitting right beside me I figured I'd take a couple more shots of broken-graphics-card-craft. Unfortunately...

I got 5 diamond 5 mins ago, this is what I do.
Dig deep, down to lava level and adminium, dig around until you reach large areas of dirt. Use a shovel and dig up all of the dirt, most of the time, ore will be there.
