Little slimes don't attack, and you can set the difficulty mode to normal to have big slimes and enemies.

I learned a valuable lesson today.

I built a wood fortress in an area around high numbers of trees. I wanted to get rid of them, so I lit a few on fire, and went to mine while the fire went to work. When I returned, about half of my fort was gone due to the fire, and it took me forever to rebuild it. Dumb move.

It could have spawned before the update. All entities are saved including mobs. (though notch has fixed bugs before without fixing them)
