Yea, someone leaked it and posted it around, eventually everyone had it so notch just went fuck it and put it on his blog until he changes it again.

It's not that fun because 80% of the time you can't see eachother and half the shit is broken.
I didn't encounter any bugs at all when I was playing. It was just like single player but with more people. Sometimes they warped around, sure, but I blame that on my shitty ping and not the client.
But still, it's the principle of the thing.

I think the invisible players happens when you load a chunk that has people in it, or you walk into someone else's rendered chunks, or something, I could see other people at the spawn.

No. I would be one of the people who are part of the problem. It all boils down to how fast your internet is and how good your connection is compared to X,000 other people who are doing the exact same thing. I'd rather not try to play SMP at all than play knowing there are thousands of people cheating to get in first.
