Because I have better things to do than sit at my computer all night watching Minecraft endlessly refresh and hoping that I eventually connect to a game full of people I don't know or want to play with.
I take it your better things to do involve sitting around on facepunch complaining about /v/ all night while occasionally trying to manually log in to SMP, hoping that you will eventually connect to a game full of people you don't know or want to play with.
4chan in general can be a bunch of pricks. I know a few other /v/ friends, and while we joke around a lot, we are still nice guys. People over react when they hear /v/, or 4chan in general, but I can see why.
I still firmly believe that /gif/ and /b/ give all of 4chan a bad name. The idea of "anonymous" is just stupid. It's not a large group of people who are out to destroy everything you like about the internet, it's just what comes up when you don't put in a name for your post.
SMP's a bad idea because everyone's got it in their head that griefing will add fun to the game.
"Grifing" and "SMP" should never be uttered in the same sentence really. Survival Multiplayer is about survival, how someone goes about this is their choice. If someone wants to break into people's bases and steal some equipment or other stuff and possibly stay the night I don't see why their freedom to do this be revoked. This isn't griefing, it's a way to survive. Now, towering above someones base with 20 buckets of lava and having them all dump onto the persons base offering no escape? I would call that griefing under MOST circumstances. You all are really just being whiny little care bears who just want to sit in safety and restrict other peoples fun.

Please don't assume things, you sound like an ass when you're proven wrong.
woop got in, jumped in mem leak black hole and DCed awesome.

I don't hate 4chan, but I hate how they just sit there and let /b/ spread out like that.

We should play on the same server when it comes out.
Actually I'm playing singleplayer working on that tutorial level I mentioned earlier. Please don't assume things, you sound like an ass when you're proven wrong.
Oh, sorry, so when you stated that you had better things to do than sitting at your computer all night, you're actually just continuing to play the exact same game in a different mode. Forgive my assumption.

This happens all the time and it's really dumb! OP: Wow, what an asshole, he keeps doing that, I'd better ban him or something. ______: Wait, I'm not a griefer, I'm a thief, it's what I do! (lololol) OP: Oh, carry on then.
I can vouch for that...You only get attention if you're an asshole at first.
Exactly. When I first joined, I was ignored by everybody. Now sometimes people announce when I get into a thread. It's weird.

A way to survive is just a poor excuse -- you can GIVE PEOPLE ITEMS there should be NO EXCUSE as to why you went into their home and stole everything when you just could have asked them to help them get a jumpstart.
it shouldn't be a ban then, it should be jail time if you get caught.
How would that work?
Doomish: Hey, _______ just killed me and took all my stuff again! This happens all the time and it's really dumb! Alternatively, enforce a "no stealing" rule, or enforce rules on how much can be stolen.

Jesus fucking Christ guys cant we just talk about minecraft. Like this diamond pickaxe is really awesome, already collected another 2 diamons and 58 iron ore.
I'm still sitting at my computer all night, I'm just not sitting at my computer all night for a lost cause like most of you (and /v/) are.
I've actually been playing STALKER:CoP. I got onto SMP 4 times earlier, and played all that I wanted to. I never waited longer than 5 minutes to connect, and was playing ROTMG on my laptop while the script was running. This assumptions thing goes both ways, hun.
Damn, this is stupid.. Notch should just release the buggy version to the people who BOUGHT MineCraft.. We bought it and we still need invite codes. :byodood:
How would that work?
Somebody could make a script to strip a user of all of his inventory and to stick him in a predetermined location (filled with adminium or obsidian). /jail Griefer Griefer: WHAT THE FUCK Y U DO THAT OP: You were caught stealing Griefer: BUT I'M A THIEF! OP: That's why you're in jail and not banned Bam. Not only does the kid look like a retard, but he's removed from the community, as well.

And forces people into this utopian archetype when really some just want to cause a little chaos.
And this is why I wish people like you got hit by trains. :colbert:
Why? Because you lack the basic intelligence needed to figure out AutoHotKey? Seriously. Instead of learning how to level the playing field (which took me all of 5 minutes) you come here and complain about people that are capable of using google. [editline]07:09AM[/editline]
oh, sorry i specifically mentioned you when i was talking about most of the people who said they were using macros and didn't say anything even pertaining to you besides quoting you in my response, i guess that means i assumed something somehow according to you my bad
You quoted me and used the word "you" in your sentence. Stop backpedaling.
I'm going to laugh if Notch releases server files tomorrow.
Why? Because you lack the basic intelligence needed to figure out AutoHotKey? Seriously. Instead of learning how to level the playing field (which took me all of 5 minutes) you come here and complain about people that are capable of using google.
Thats not leveling the playing field. If I could find the picture of the medic facepalm laughing I would. You are what is worst to offer from anywhere and I seriously hope you get hit by a train, or your IP gets banned. What you just said is the most ironic thing, thats like Iran saying, "We're just trying to level the playing field by getting nukes." I know how to use an AutoHotKey, I just hold myself to a standard that stops me from being a douchebag except to actual douchebags.
If the game is about survival, there wouldn't be any need to destroy another person property or steal their things for no clear reason. If they are smart they won't put a chest of diamonds in a wood shack. There are already ways of hiding stuff and with redstone (If you understand it) you can make even more elaborate hiding devices or doors or whatever.
Doomish: Hey, _______ just killed me and took all my stuff again! This happens all the time and it's really dumb!
But removing these elements makes the game bland and bureaucratic, it makes it creative with a health bar and limited resources, and removes several layers of depth in the gameplay.
I never said you couldn't do it, I just said it'd be called griefing if you did. If someone is trying to build their base and you are destroying their base that is griefing and there is no two ways about it. There aren't any layers of depth in it. It's what you do in creative if you want to grief and it translates over to SMP in the same manner. It all boils down to the server you join. If the rules say no killing/stealing, you should probably refrain from killing or stealing. If it says do whatever, then you can do whatever.
I'm going to laugh if Notch releases server files tomorrow.
I'd say we'll get them within a couple of days at the most. Most devs would have instantly shit bricks and changed the password, and then re-distributed it to fewer people. Notch, on the other hand, goes on twitter and posts it so everyone can have a free-for-all. If he wasn't planning to release server files soon, I doubt he would have given the internet permission to render his server pretty much useless.
