You can come across the base of someone that isn't logged in, come across the base of someone who is mining and can't be contacted. There are plenty of reasons but the main one for me at least is: The thrill of getting in and swiping stuff.
As for redstone and hiding stuff, it's just a sugestion. There are plenty of ways to hide stuff and here's a good example:
Use smooth stone as flooring commonly in your base or your mine but have furnaces scattered throughout it all that you can use to hide more valuable ores, the tops of furnaces look exactly the same as smooth stone, and I doubt people will go around randomly right clicking on the floor.
You could hide chests behind sand in the walls too, with dummy chests and ones that actually contain stuff, possibly even a lava trap in one of them.

Which is why you build good defenses against it. I'm of the "Hidden base in a hidden base" mindset, if you really don't want someone finding your stuff keep it well hidden.

So, is anyone able to confirm whether notch is going to add 3rd party modification support? I'd love to expand to an already great game, and think of what's possible. Earlier people in the thread were talking about bigger boats and cannons. Maybe planes? Who knows what you could do with 3rd party modifications. Hope notch does this lol.

Put stairs on the level above the stair block in the direction you want them to go to, then put a set of stairs on top of [I]those[/I] stairs that you put above the originals to correct them, and remove both of the correction stairs.
it wastes some resources but it's better than having bad staircases :buddy:

I just don't understand how you can laugh in the face of an intelligent community and say it's [I]not[/I] an intelligent community if you aren't a part of one.
