Did notch ever fix slimes appearing on peaceful?
I would check the blog, but tumblr seems to be down.

I had 5 diamonds when slimes attacked and pushed me into lava :frown:

Slime seems to be more like jello then liquid, and they can spawn in well lit areas. :tinfoil:
