I've personally gotten 4 or 5 people into Minecraft, and it kinda had a ripple effect at my school. I was running a server for a while, had 9 people on at most, 3-5 people average.
There's two of my closer friends who don't play it, and one of them really wants to but knows he'll get far too addicted for his own good if he starts.

I think it was a mod being developed for Garry's Mod. I figured out it was based on a game, so I watched a few videos, and bought it.
2 of my IRL friends, >10 Steam friends. It's a goddamn pyramid scheme. :ohdear:
My best friend got me into it, and we proceeded to get two of our friends into it by showing them it and buying them copies for Christmas. Now we play together and chat on Xbox Live.
My friend and my cousin.
My little sister and one possibly two of my friends.
Got one of my friends on Steam into it back in 0.20 or something. Strangely enough he's the only one that plays it, too boring for me.
I don't own minecraft but i got 1 friend hooked on it.
Almost every one of my friends so far.
2 friends and I got my little brother into it and then all of his friends started asking [i]me[/i] about it instead of him and they got into it so I guess you could count them too.
3 friends, their families, several dozen random people at school, my brother, several dozen random people on the internet.
So far I've managed to get my girlfriend, sister and friend from school hooked.
Personally, a friend of mine told me about Minecraft.

One of my friends kept swearing up and down he wasn't going to try Minecraft and that it was just a dumb fad. I showed him my video of it and he finally broke down.
Granted he's on a pirated version I think, he's still planning to buy it.
I got hooked onto it by a massive troll in garrysmod.

I like that this game isn't looked down upon as other games. If you say something like oh 'I play counter strike" people will look at you weird, but everyone plays minecraft.

Whole school basically, we started playing in the Computer lab getting my friends to play it then everyone else began to play it.
3 other friends but they are playing on a pirated copy :frog:
