My brother, four or five friends, and by accident, about 50 12 year olds, who only play classic and don't even know that beta exists.
Everyone who plays at my school quintessentially directly or indirectly bought the game because of me. I probably directly showed 5 or so of my friends, and they passed it on to their other friends. I found it because of the Minecraft megathread here.
5 of my irl friends and my brother, who then spread it to about 4 of his irl friends.

One day at school one of my friends gave me this game on a thumbdrive and logged me into his account. He challenged me to a building contest. Build a house to certain specifications, and whoever does it first wins. Well I lost, but soon after I got addicted and made that house into my home I still use to this day. Since then I've built an entire walled city around it.

I see random people playing the Classic version since I brought it up one time in my computer lab at school. One person actually bought it though. It's funny, you have to set the fog rendering distance to tiny and have low settings in order to actually get a good framerate on those piece of crap computers.

I got my girlfriend, quite a few guys from school, my dad loves it now, etc etc...
I'm slowly bringing my school into the Minecraft scene. It started with one friend who bought it just for the heck of it. 3 more friends bought it, and soon my whole grade was talking about it. It sucks because some kids don't know I brought it into fashion, and when they see me play it they're like, "Wow that guy probably just got Minecraft. Noob" :smith:

Mother, father, sister, oldest friend. No trailers. Just creative mode for the rest. Nothing except words on the friend.
I've bought 4 copies for me and friends.
Total of 16 people playing minecraft because I took the leap and bought it first.
I bought it and all my friends kind of laughed at me for playing such a "silly" game. Then the next week one of them tried it out and got addicted to it. One by one the rest of my friends bought it and now we have our own server with 4-5 active players a day.
I was introduced by my classmates, and I got my father and my brother into it.
