Torchlight has almost no originality in it.
It's ALL ripped off other stuff.
Especially the barbarian skills. My god, they just 100% replicated the barbarian skills they see in the diablo 3 gameplay video.
Yeah, but this game has dynamically generated dungeons, infinite replayability...
Another diablo ripoff.
Another diablo ripoff.
It's more like a remake. Seeing as it's made by the same people. They didn't take the idea from someone else, so it's not a ripoff.
A sequel to diablo 2 is being made. But some douchebags quit blizzard and made a half assed game that was ripped off of their former company to earn money.

And they did a damn nice job.

Half assed? It's very well polished, and it's fun. And it's cheap.
"oh no a game uses the same playstyle as diablo and has some of the developers of diablo 2 work on it. I declare it a rip off now"
[editline]04:59PM[/editline]
It's a good game and people like it. So why say such meaningless stuff like that
It's because they make themselves look original while they are not.
It's because they make themselves look original while they are not.
They claim left and right that it takes elements heavily from Diablo and Fate, and advertise that they worked on those projects.
Guys, it took eleven months with a team of like twenty guys to make this. They don't claim originality. They just claim that they took a tried and true method of having fun and polished it well enough to work in today's market as a budget title.
And that's all it is.
This game is more like the First Diablo, Fate, and Mythos all together in one game. I like this game better then both, and due to modability that people can do now, this game is now in league with Diablo 3.
What I like about this game is that the storyline is different, and it's less gothic then diablo and more cartoon-ish then fate (with style).
This game got rid of one of my most annoyance of all hack and slash games... and that is a full inventory and don't want to go to town yet... what they do? They made a little system for your pet that if you press this button, your pet will go to town and sell the items and come back... this is the most awesome feature and I never have to worry about a full inventory again (unless I gain more items and have a full inventory before my pet came back from the last full inventory).
What I dislike about this game, is that there is only 3 classes in this game, and there is no character customization in this game like Fate has...
There is no crafting in this game, which they should of made to make this game more interesting, with the fishing and dungeon exploring.
You can mod it? Tell how.

There is an editor(Not sure if it's out yet) that allows for map, quest, particle and script editing.
I played the demo today and I really really like it, but there are so many games out now or soon, I don't know if I want to buy it already

I would just play the great multiplayer games that are comming out around now, and then buy the boxed copy of torchlight when it comes out in a few months
This sounds and looks a lot like Fate.

Which itself is a shameless Diablo clone.
Fun game, played the demo. Installing full version now.

Uh... That idea is taken directly from Fate.
For those complaining about how the game has no multiplayer, they are currently working on an MMO set in the same world as Torchlight.

But there is another mmo by diablo devs or something. Forgot it's name.
Im contemplating buying this.
Torchlight is a fun game. I played the demo, which is surprisingly long, and plan to buy the game later.
I think it takes a bit of an understanding to know why there is no multiplayer in Torchlight. The game comes from the team that was working on Mythos, which was Flagship Studios who went under after Hellgate: London died. Fun game, but they admit now that it was too ambitious. They make a new studio and set a goal. The point was to see what they could do by going back to their roots and make a game in less than a year. Torchlight is the result. With this out now, they are hoping to make an MMO in the same setting.
It's a much better line of thinking than what they were trying to do with Hellgate.
I think I'd be happier if they take the Valve approach, and spend several years making a positively awesome game, rather than squirting out another Diablo clone in under a year.

I think that would not only be hard but disastrous considering they had a small budget. Not every head of a video game company has the personal money to invest for years because they worked at Microsoft previously.
The demo is awesome. Now I really want Diablo 3!
But will the mmo be good? If it will be with subs, it will suck. If it will be with cash shop, it will suck again. Really.
Been playing Torchlight all day non-stop.
It's very satisfying to kill the mobs when you are a berserker.
But this game is Diablo 2 with the art style of Trine. Lacks originality.
But by playing this game just makes me wish i was playing diablo 3. Guess this eases the pain until it's release.
Well worth the price.
This game is incredibly addicting.
I just love how when i bash my enemies the whole screen shakes and the effects look so massive. Makes it much more fun killing the mobs.
Aye, you can hear the crunching of the bones.
So, I bought Torchlight on Steam and holy shit. It has totally rekindled my love for Diablo-likes. I don't know what it is but this little game is fucking addicting even tho I've played it before, in a sense. It's a ton of fun. And I can't go back to Diablo II and play that again because I'll think it's fucking stupid. I can't play Titan Quest even tho that is a really good Diablo clone. Torchlight tho...man, I dunno what it is. Loving it.
