Definitely buying this game on Christmas. It was a great game when I played the demo, I assume the game and modding would make this spot on.

This game is pretty great. I've got a 14 destroyer thing and a level 5 alchemist that I made just to try out Ocular and Tinkertoy.
Torchlight got an update. Steam Cloud, achievements, and it's 50% off.
Now is the time if you have not already bought it.
Ok, I played the demo... Basically it's Fate with guns and class skills. It has a generally better feel to it than Fate... Like it's a more "solid" game, and hitting the enemies feels more satisfying and such. If I didn't already have Fate and Diablo 2, I'd probably be getting Torchlight.
The one thing I really wish they'd do is take a page from Titan Quest and eliminate the need to have town portal scrolls and identification scrolls. When I first played TQ, I thought it was kind of silly to let players warp back to town at no cost, but then I realized that if you're any higher than level 5, the cost of town portal scrolls is negligible, and they might as well cost nothing. As it is, all these scrolls serve no purpose but adding a bit of tedium to the game and taking up an otherwise useful inventory slot. It's really annoying and pointless. At least they made it so you don't have to keep a fishing rod in your inventory to fish.
I can get this game for $10, but I'm not sure if I really want to. It's just so much of the same.
There are spell versions of Identify and Town Portal, I've seen at least one of each.
This game looks amazing, so maybe it's time I got it now that it's on sale.
Is it worth the $10, or should I wait for the MMO?

Totally fucking worth it

If you want to help fund the MMO, buy this. It's worth it.
The Torchlight MMO is not just going to be like this game with multiplayer.

And I already said that if you use those, it's taking up spell slots that are otherwise useful.
Only 10 dollars? I'm getting this before I go to sleep.
And I already said that if you use those, it's taking up spell slots that are otherwise useful.
If you're a vanquisher or the one warrior class it doesn't matter

It does if you're not playing on easy.
Gah.... 50% off... must... resist...
I have bought so many games this past year I don't even know what to play. I was planning to buy this game at some point, but... GAH :suicide:
Bought this, I loved the demo and for 10 bucks I can't pass it up.
i use a sword and a pistol, i can still use my destroyer skills but be able to snipe guys from a distance
i'm using 2 1-h axes and I rape everything with one doomquake
I seriously just rush in and hit doomquake, sometimes I throw in the big shocky thunderclap wave thing.

what the fuck combineguy give me back my avatar
what are you talking about
:haw:
50% off :D I can finally get this soon.
I've got this. It's pretty good, but yeah gets repetitive.
Torchlight does this weird thing, where instead of loading, it'll sit there for 10-15 seconds, then start loading, Happens when selecting a character too, instead of popping right up, sits there for about 10 seconds
other than that, it runs fine, Maxxed out, 1680X1050, AA, the whole works, even on this piece of shit PC
It does look pretty sweet...
Woop. My brother forgot to get me a Christmas present and bought this for me. Yay!
Anyways, how do you upgrade spells? I kinda figured you could put skill points into them, but it won't let me at level ups.
Meet my character. I don't remember his name, but that doesn't matter; I've taken to referring to him as Emperor-fucking-Palpatine because Ember Lightning is hilariously powerful.

To upgrade the spells that you get through scrolls, you just have to get the higher level scroll.

Also, just wait till you come across something that is resistant to your attacks lol.

Well, I also have some sort of icey-bomb thing. :v:
[editline]11:36PM[/editline]
Oh yeah, and you're incorrect in Spell leveling. There's a set of skills you can level up called "Offensive Spells", "Defensive Spells", and "Charm Spells". Each skill is divided into one of those categories and leveling up said skill will increase the level of all spells in that category permanently.
Thank goodness for the forum FAQ. :science:

I am not incorrect, all you've done is just named another way of going about it.
It does if you're not playing on easy.
I was playing on Hard using both those spells with my Destroyer.
Maybe you just suck.

You're both correct, there are 6 tiers of spells, and there's also the spell rank which is the level of Offensive/Defensive/Charm mastery you have.

LoL, I play hardcore ironman, seeing as that's the most challenge I can get out of the game...
That doesn't make your previous statement any more correct.
