With such an intricate combat system, what would happen if I got shot? Would it be a 1 hit kill because if so guns would be terrible powerful.

It would depend on where you get hit, I imagine. If you get shot in the hand or something, chances are you won't die immediately.

Shooting in 3D spess is easier than 2D spess so I'm not sure how exactly fair guns would be considering once you're dead, you're dead unless you've got a good security team and set of medics.
Ballistic guns aren't exactly common in SS13 anyway. For good reason too: kind of hard to balance bullets in a game with permadeath that's not supposed to be a [I]blatant[/I] deathmatch (jokes aside).
Also bullets in space = nope.
shooting should be inaccurate as shit so you have to get up close, and even then every shot is a huge risk due to the loud noise and that
but high damage shots so you can't survive taking a bullet to the chest without medical attention

Security is mostly a passive role. Being an old-school security player myself, the major incentive is actually to NOT play security by making the other roles more attractive. Patroling is the biggest part of the job, and monitoring the on-station cameras is another big part of the job. The role is going to be completely responsive to what's going on in the station.
We're really focusing on the situational gamemodes, more along the lines of power failures, evacuations, and the like, focusing on cooperative and contrived competitive gamemodes.

There is no actual inventory, and we're trying to limit on-screen HUD interaction. Inventory is handled through equipment slots. and numbered/lettered hotkeys. Jumpsuits have pockets, belts have tool slots, and you can equip holsters/pouches to belts. There are backpacks and toolboxes and the like, which extend carrying capacity. The biggest thing is that we want inventory to be handled on the fly, and equipment to be context sensitive, rather than having a cumbersome UI.
Again, the reason that reloading is a little more extensive is because we're trying to balance combat mechanics, and keep the input scheme fairly complex. In the end, we feel that this is going to be beneficial to gameplay, and we're really going to consider changing it down the road during alpha/beta, but until then, nobody can really say much on the subject.
It sounds overly complicated, I know, but once you play with our input scheme, I'm sure you'll agree that there is method behind our madness.

Unity isn't shit insofar as what it is, but the render loop is slow and doesn't offer any sort of deep control. Unity has quite a number of problems with the way it handles rendering. Particularly, how it handles batching, and its awful floating point precision are some of the major problems with the engine.
So, for us, the engine isn't desirable, seeing as it makes a lot of the features we want nigh impossible.

Know how many games we'll have to play? About 20-40. That's it. Know why? Because nothing is fucking original any more. NOTHING.
Lastly - we're allowing people to pre-purchase the game because they have ASKED to, not because we are "LULZ MONEY FROM PEOPLES FUCK YOU". And the reason why we're allowing people to pre-purchase the game, is because making a decent game, with decent features to a playable level requires MONEY, unless you would rather have this game come out in 2040 or something, because without money to subsidise development, that's what's going to happen.

Why am I having a Dejavu of when Terraria came out. You're acting just like those 12-year-old wanna be whiteknights that call every project shit if just has the absolute slightest connection to Minecraft. I have wanted this game for a long time, but SS13 didn't do it for me, I prefer experiencing all dimensions in a game like this as my immersion is heightened.
I wonder if Deadsnipe's dislike for this costing money and having a centralized server that stores character information is in any way due to how much harder griffing and ban evading becomes (what with licence bans and being shut off from the character server).

Except he's right. Arrogant yes, but right (and honestly, act arrogant and you get an arrogant response, what'd you expect, I'd have done the same). One thing kinda pisses me off here more than it should, and it's that people that play SS13 are apparently as bad as CoD players in that anything that is in SS13, was invented by SS13.
Cryo was not invented by SS13.
Electricity was not invented by SS13.
Atmospherics was not invented by SS13.

You aren't ripping off CoD if you use a Abram's in your modern warfare game, CoD did not invent Abrahams.

Actually bullets in space would work great. No air resistance, no (or very low) gravity and you only need some oxygen. That doesn't matter though because it's all on a space station with oxygen, air and artificial gravity.
Only real problem would be damaging the station, but I'd assume that larger stations in the future would be more like a normal installation than the ones we have now (with lots of wires everywhere and sensitive equipment).
