• Centration - The paranoid, toolbox smashing and monkey throwing space station simulator

Ok, there's a few new things going on. Noms or one of the other devs will have to correct me if I got something wrong here. First, Centration is still #28 on Steam Greenlight despite the lack of updates lately (that's probably going to change soon, though). [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/26425222/centration/greenlight-28.png[/t] Second, we just had a contest to where people could suggest a slogan for the game, and then people could vote for the one they liked. I've worked with another guy on the forum to make one, and most people liked it, so noms made it official: [t]http://www.centration.co/wp-content/themes/centrationbeta/images/banner-logo.png[/t] Third, the Indiegogo campaign has ended with a total of 5 thousand quids, enough to confirm that there is definitely enough interest in this kind of game and also help the team carry the development until the public Alpha (the planning stage is officially over, they're "developing" the game proper as we speak). Which brings me to... Fourth, there will be a "real" kickstarter going in the near future, now that it's available in the U.K. There WILL be a public Alpha build that will go along with it if you pledge enough during the kickstarter or if you buy premium on the official website (for 25 quids, so I'm assuming the pledge during the kickstarter will be just as much for Alpha access). Fifth, Facepunch or the Greenlight page aren't updated a lot, but the forum is much more active, so for the latest dev news register on the forum or just follow their twitter, I guess. I'm urging them to update the first two, but I guess they're real busy right now, and they'll definitely do it when the kickstarter is there, so I guess that's fine. To this day, plenty of people are still showing interest in the game on the Greenlight page, so that's also a plus. Welp, that's all I got for now. It's not much if you were expecting more direct news about the game itself, but at least you know things are still moving along.
I just hope each round doesn't start in a station that is already damaged/destroyed for the sake of 'Horror'. I hope it follows with Space Station 13 as much as possible.
The game is planned to be very moddable, so that will definitely be tweakable by the server owner. I think there was some talk that the station would start a bit like in SS13 where some equipment, like the main engine, could be disabled at the start of the round, but what specific equipment would be randomized more or less so it doesn't get stale. Though I'm thinking it'll be easy to make it so that the station starts in a pristine state if so desired, and that a shitload of random events could mess-up the station afterwards. I think the horror part comes in more with the fact that you would be in first person in a station with multiple, 3-dimentional levels, so it the atmosphere would naturally be more oppressive by default. In SS13 nobody can "sneak up behind you" because you can see 360 degrees around you at all times, while in SS13 you don't have eyes behind your back.
i can see it now, walking down a dark hallways, the lights flickering off and on randomly, the screams of people being eaten by xenos off in the distance and suddenly, in your left ear you hear a faint whisper "I'd rather toolbox then quit!" [editline]26th November 2012[/editline] or some assistant screams over the intercom system "CLOWN GRIFF ME IN BAR HELP"
There is a distinct possibility that the game will be accepted in the next round of Greenlit games up on Steam. We'll see how that goes.
Looking at the features and all That this really Reminds me of space station 13,which I am happy for! Some inspiration from space station 13?
Yes, it draws a lot from SS13. In fact, some people on the dev team were actually the original designers of SS13, if I recall correctly.

Of course, that goes without saying.
That, along with it not being Byond and a more intuitive and faster UI, are the biggest gains in my opinion.
And hopefully it's combat system is a lot better than just clicking the spessmens.
All PC games boil down to "click on things for stuff to happen". So you'll still have to click on the spessmens, but timing will be involved.
All PC games boil down to "click on things for stuff to happen". So you'll still have to click on the spessmens, but timing will be involved.
well duh Point is, SS13 combat is pretty fucking shitty, and hopefully this is not.
I do a hope for this project. I've always wanted something similar to space station 13 that's not created in BYOND.
well duh Point is, SS13 combat is pretty fucking shitty, and hopefully this is not.
Yeah, I hope too. Right now all we know about the game is 33% info from the devs, 66% speculation and 1% actual gameplay.
I'm excited about the roleplay aspects of this. I really hope the devs add the possibility of modding the game, I'd love to see servers extend the game with hundreds more choices faster than the devs can add content. I'd be very impressed if roleplay was actually possible and full of variety. What I mean is, roleplay is great when you have a character and you play the same character for a long time, building reputation, making relationships with other players, advancing the character's progression. I wouldn't like to play an new character every hour when some dude kills us all. I guess I'm just saying two main things: 1. Please don't get people hyped up for roleplay if you can't provide a good setting for it (think GMod serious RP servers ). 2. Make this shit moddable and you'll have an awesome dedicated community even if you fuck up some things! Apart from that, I'm excited. Looks great from what little has been released.
Regarding this above post, I'll have to agree. I hope it will be a lot like Space station 13's roleplay, or even better if possible.

Life-threatening situations every round, guaranteed to kill off at least half the stations crew.
I hope the Maltese Falcon still makes it in the game. So much cannibalism.
I think the roleplay aspect will definitely change depending on the server you'll play in. I also think that just like in SS13 the game can be conductive to roleplay, and that if you play2win all the time you'd be doing it wrong.
I hope the Maltese Falcon still makes it in the game. So much cannibalism.
I don't think it will be called that or will have the same form, but quite sure there will be a bar and kitchen.
I don't think it will be called that or will have the same form, but quite sure there will be a bar and kitchen.
What's the Maltese Falcon?
What's the Maltese Falcon?
The bar and kitchen area in SS13 (/tg/ build at least). Yeah it's not often called that, usually people just say bar or kitchen.
I don't know if there will be a bar, but there will definitely be a kitchen. Though I'm sure someone will eventually mod a bar in the game and call it the Maltese Falcon.
This is like 4th time i see one of my old threads suddenly get back to life out of nowhere. Updating thread soon.

Like that air pressure physics sim thing, that is just glorious.
I'm hoping we'll get a trailer soon, even if it's just a CGI trailer or a mock-up.
There's an actual update: http://www.centration.co/2012/12/developer-blog-in-the-deep-end/
Development is still going strong every day. Some new concept art New site also coming online soon. Forums are also getting more active as new members keep coming in. If everything stays going strong on Greenlight we might make it to Steam soon for the next batch, we are number 14# now.
