In all honesty UE3 is cheap compared to Unity.
I have a grudge against Unity for some reason.
But as I mentioned, I know that I'm wrong. I just don't like Unity for some reason, most likely because it is so widely used which gives it a cheap feel.

That's mostly because the shaders you get with the engine are really basic, and because most people don't bother writing their own.

or, in the case of unity free, most of the things you need / want in shader functionality is locked out
Also since spaceships will be pilotable, can't wait to crash ships into ships. Also one thing I hope for is stronger windows (if there are any), you should not be able to break them without explosives or powerful weapons (considering what they must be made to endure).

Wait, what? Are spaceships pilotable?

At least in SS13 the space stations were made from shitty second-rate parts and were deathtraps because of that. It's not fun to play on a safe station.
Is the alpha out or will it be released soon?
From what I understand, the Alpha is scheduled to be released towards the end of the summer.
Code & Technical
Bigtoe, our lead developer has been keeping the code monkeys under an almost iron fist - we've got very good updates on Airflow, Physics, our character controller, interaction and the first framework of our networked events backend. Elliot, Karroon and Salp have got their work cut out for them, but they are overcoming all obstacles and making significant progress.
Our airflow system has presented many problems - this is the first time a game (to my knowledge) is attempting to include a realistic airflow / physics implantation into a game like this. Having air volumes communicate with each other, transfer and regulate their pressure and contents, as well as interacting with physics so we can have really cool effects like explosive decompression and force momentum. Some really fun tests going on with that and we're confident that soon we'll have something to show you.
Over on the medical side of things - the health system is proving an interesting experience. It's all relatively simple in comparison to handling airflow physics, but it's not without its challenges. Elliot is being awesome as usual and lots of testing involving bleeding out and suffocation has occured.
Meanwhile, Karroon has been -amazing- at implementing a responsive character controller that uses motion capture efficiently, blends the animations, interacts with the environment and reacts to outside forces realistically. We'll put up a video of this soon - only problem is getting more motion capture data. We don't have equipment yet, so we're using a lot of stock stuff. If you have any suggestions be sure to let us know!
New dev blog, there are some pictures and more stuff inside. It's good to have and update on how things are going.

More actual content which is not only concept art!

I'm fine with them being breakable by something less than explosives and stuff, but considering how much more aggressive the atmos system will act for decompression (so it seems at least), some assistant with a toolbox shouldn't be able to. Too easy to basically kill anyone in the room (or nearly), throw all objects in the room into space and render the place unusable for some time otherwise (it's a big effect for being easy to cause in 10 seconds by a guy with the most common object on the station).
Yeah, Q&A with the devs right now on their Twitch.tv
what kind of game is this? I read the OP but I don't understand. Are there are videos that shows how the gameplay plays? I thought about pre-ordering but just wanted to make sure I would like it.
3D space station 13. Player generated situations.

Mmm, to scary for me.

I'm going to assume you haven't played SS13 (otherwise: more serious SS13-style game in first person 3D, but definitely not a SS13 remake): Basically you and several other players are on a spacestation together, everyone with a job to make the whole thing function (chefs making food, janitors cleaning the place, security keeping the place safe etc) and that's basically it. I can't even begin to describe the shit that happens, but you can get a small idea by imagining 32 internet strangers living on a station with almost no rules (there are things like undercover traitors that want to destroy the station, but black holes, traitors, aliens and meteors are rarely the most dangerous thing on the station).

Sounds pretty sick and very unique. I like supporting devs who makes games like this.
Yeah it's the only case where the whole "no NPCs, every character is a player" thing works.
Or, creates Fun, in other words.
So have there been any updates? Any video footage yet?

Apparently they're releasing a gameplay teaser tonight, from what I see in the premium section of the forums.

Finally is all I can say! Can't wait to see it, if they stick to the plan!

The gameplay+Q&A just ended and it was quite big. Guess they'll have the recording up on Youtube or their Twitch pretty soon.
Haha, the game looks incredibly creepy.
I hope the Maltese Falcon still makes it in the game.
So much cannibalism.
I'm pretty sure the guys behind this have been trying to ditch every reference to SS13 (regardless of the server it's based on) so they can claim the game is an original idea and sell it, so don't put your hopes up.
Where's the video?
Come hang-out with the dev team on TS3: ts.centration.co:9989
Sorry if this has been asked: What exactly is there to stop people from just going nuts with a scalpel for the heck of it, as it tends to happen in TTT?

Admins, which is always used against this kind of stuff I suppose.
Admins, which is always used against this kind of stuff I suppose.
I'd assume there's attack logs and other such investigation methods in this like there is in SS13, or this is going to end horribly.

Well generally that guy will go down pretty fast (unless he is a robust griffmaster, then call the admin), but yeah it won't be fun for the guy who is now dead. Generally for single cases it's just others brutally murdering the guy and making a burger out of him, at most a short time ban for the player. If he keeps doing that it's longer bans or perma.
