Europe has been paying €60 for years now, and Autralia/New Zealand pay $100. It seems to me Americans are just catching up on the inflated prices.
I remember getting SNES games fairly new for $5 each. Shit man, I bought Super Metroid for $5 from a bargain bin when it came out.
Honestly I'm surprised they didn't go to 60 a while ago. They stayed at $50 for a very long time despite inflation.
I'm sorry, but very successful companies like IW charging $60 for CoD and topping the sales charts is only going to make other companies do the same thing. I mean, money hungry companies like Ubisoft and EA charging $60 for AC2 or MoH respectively are to be expected, but I'm afraid other companies may follow suit. I just don't see the reasons for inflated PC games prices besides general greed, especially when programs like steam cut out most of the middle man. These stingy companies like Ubisoft cry and moan about piracy killing their PC gaming sales and then go and charge $60 for them, as if their massive DRM didn't make the deal worse enough. It is just completely moronic. Hopefully this $60 price tag fad will go away soon. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening any time soon.
are you mad? Back in my day, action 52 cost 300 dollars! and that was the biggest pile of shit out
Its not so much as it isn't fair, It is because each country prints new bills everyday spreading across the country, That lowers the value of a dollar. On some news channels, it gives you the boards which show the value of a dollar, since it is lowering. You would have to give more money to keep up with old sales prices. It's not that it is an asshole marketing scheme, it's the gaming companies and publishers need more bills to amount to what would keep them in a good financial state.
Cry some more, in Australia cod4 and cod6 etc. are $110 still in EB games. Shitload of fuck.

God forbid cod 6 even goes on sale once, despite it being out for nearly a year now. These same people are charging $15 for three maps. If you don't think they're doing this to skim some extra cash, then I don't know what.
The gaming community will be divided into two parts; those who know the value of games and those who don't.

A company like infinity ward went through A very large financial downfall and needed the cash from the 2 map packs. If you are a large company that is running ALOT of projects, you cant sell games for such low prices since they have so many employees working and so many titles in progress, you would have to keep up with old sale prices to pay your employees. Valve only has a small amount of employees. While publishers like EA/Activision run 1000's of employees and must pay them all, causing the prices to be high.
At least Minecraft is :10bux::woop:

I don't think they should have a problem paying employees.
Developers and publishers give "suggested retail prices" they are not requirements. With that said almost all of them suggest $60. With that said it's up to the whoever is putting the product in the customers hand. Also, since this is mostly about PC games and people can debate ^ I will tell you why people charge $60 for digital downloads. > Steam has the privilege to distribute games not the right and because of this developers basically tell Steam, D2D, etc... "$60 a game or GTFO." IMO: PC games should cost more then console ones in most cases. With developers pushing out more content, tools, and going through the process to port the game they should be rewarded; sadly it'll never change.
Games aren't usually ported to the PC.. it's usually vice versa.
To be fair, as the length and quality of games and their assets increase
What. Seriously, CoD:MW2 took me maximum 5-7 hours to complete. SC:Conviction took 2-3 days. What the shit is that? Talking about console games, here in Moscow, they cost 80-100 bucks which is seriously ridiculous. Also, I'm fucking pissed at Blizzard. They told that there won't be any monthly fee for Starcraft 2 anywhere. Russia is so special they had to fucking do it only here. If they try to reduce the amount of piracy here then they're fucking wrong.
Modern Warfare 2 is still $120 in Australia, and $100-ish preowned. You have it easy.
Games aren't usually ported to the PC.. it's usually vice versa.
It's progressively changing.
It won't fade until the $60 console games fade, which is probably never.
If I remember correctly, the whole reason 60 dollar console games took off was because of, "New technology required to create titles for consoles such as the 360 and ps3".
Give me a honest, non biased answer to why console's have to pay more then PC gamers
In New Zealand, my brother got his CoDMW2 for $100 in JB Hi-Fi when it was just released a month ago. I wish it was around $60, cause that was my birthday money being used there.
Give me a honest, non biased answer to why console's have to pay more then PC gamers
Box Art and Publisher licencing. That and a company can choose to increase the price if they wanted.

Next thing you know: 5 hour long games for 100 dollars. also, you must pay a monthly fee to play. Starting at 10$ a week! Brought to you by
EA has a net income of $1.08 billion. I don't think they should have a problem paying employees.
But tell me, how do they get that money? By selling games that are $10-20? [editline]02:48AM[/editline]

And Sift What are you trying to prove?
Next thing you know: 5 hour long games for 100 dollars.
This has already been implemented in Australia (and New Zealand) for the past 5 years. Even with the Aussie dollar being significantly stronger than in the past (like 0.86 USD or something), our game prices are still almost double that of anywhere else in the world.
But tell me, how do they get that money? By selling games that are $10-20? [editline]02:48AM[/editline] And Sift What are you trying to prove?
Um, what? No, by selling games for $50, like they've been doing. The only $60 game I've seen from them so far has been Medal of Honor.
60$ for any game has to stop. It's getting ridiculous.
In Europe it's €60 for a game, that's $78.52. In Australia it's $100 for a game, that's $90.14. In the UK it's £40 for a game, that's $62.58. Quitcher bitchen.
it's called inflation you geniuses
Increasing price on PC is just gonna invite more piracy.
50 dollars doesn't buy as much today as it used to in 2003
Modern Warfare 2 is still $120 in Australia, and $100-ish preowned. You have it easy.
This, seriously. Don't even start.
50 dollars doesn't buy as much today as it used to in 2003
but we're pc gamers so we deserve cheap games with free content updates every week and fuck you if you make me pay for content cause that shit should be free man
